Going to the USA (Nevada, Utah, California) with the wife and kids for our holidays at the end of the month. I don't yet own a SatNav and we're planning on doing some driving. Is it better to buy one here in Europe or get one in the USA? The posh ones here seem to be the only ones with US maps.

Any ideas?

Have you checked out hire cars yet? Quite often they do a cheap deal on a sat-nav as part of the rental package.

We booked the car ages ago. It turns out we've booked one without a navigation system and changing would be expensive. So we'll probably buy one.

Back to the original question!

Hi,

A TomTom unit would be your best best, a TomTom with USA mapping preloaded is expensive the Go 940 is the only option, you could buy a cheaper unit with UK preloaded and add US mapping, I've just checked TomTom are selling the mapping for £49.95.

We have some special offers running on TomTom units at the moment or we have some refurbished units starting from £70 upwards.

Email me and I can you some options.

Who are you renting through? A lot of firms will do a portable system you can hire. I've got a navman which can be updated with new maps. Alternatively just go the nearest motorist type store and buy one.
