Hi,

i had a chance to "test" the device tonight. my comments are below and also have some questions:

- Connects very fast compared to other devices i used
- Liked the compass, not necessary but a good feature IMO
- 100% accuracy spotting the fixed cameras, relaxing calm female voice warns you of the cameras, includes what the speed limit is. Doesnt sound "robotic".
- received at least 6-7 "camera van" warnings but couldnt see any vans or anything that resembles a van. my question is, the device heavily depends on user "feedback", do people really press the delete/store button to update the database ?

i have done it 2-3 times but then got bored , its also not safe to do so when you are travelling at high speeds.

overall i was pleased. the inbuilt battery is a good advantage, and it lasts for hours.

All the camera van warning can tell you is that there may be a van there. It is warning you of the sites at which vans may be present. It can't possibly know if one is there as vans tend to be mobile!

It can know if one's there if another "pro" user tells it. It sends out via the mobile network an update to other users in the vicinity. I agree though that it's a bit dodgy to try and operate the remote whilst driving. Get your passenger trained!

I've got the Road Angel Navigator 9000 which uses the same system. I've had it just over a year and never once yet has it accurately reported a live mobile camera. Plenty of warnings of "mobile camera positions", but ths system is only supposed to alert you to them if they have been reported as live (by another RA user) within the last two hours and that is of course where the system falls down because nobody presses the button if they do pass a van. So it seems like RA have abandoned that idea and it just goes off at every possible mobile camera site. Which gets quite annoying.

(Un)Fortunately I dropped my Road Angel a couple of weeks ago and it no longer works so I'm looking around to buy something better.

The RA, like any other camera warning device, can only advise of designated sites where mobile vans may be because they are, er, mobile. The RA Connected does enable you to inform the database that a site is active by pushing any button on the remote while the warning is on which will warn any other Connected user for two hours. This will only work for the Connected device, not any other RA.
You'll find that other devices will give you just as many 'false' warnings unless they only warn of fixed cameras, which isn't much help in my opinion.

It works for the Navigator 9000 too. It's the same system for both models.

Did the same last week as I now have sat nav built into the car.
First impressions are excellent - very quick connection and updates all the time. Also was good to see that my TVR speedo is pretty much spot on as well!
I think its great but no doubt there will be others who think differently!

I've had mine for over a year now and still rate it, I also bought the add on laser detector which to date despite driving through active police laser gun operators has yet to go off so I think it's a case of save your money on that one.

At best, all a laser detector will tell you is that you've just been nicked.

I saw a Lambo with one installed at the sunday service at RR, which got me thinking.

Do I need one?

I have a Tomtom and am subscribed to pocketgps for the speed cameras ... Does this do the same thing?

Which is more reliable? Do I need a second device?

My opinion at the moment is .. no. The tomtom is working to the same principle so it should be fine.

Rovermorris999 is quite correct. The laser detector accessory to the RA will only alert you if you've already done the deed and been zapped in the act. The nice people at Blackspot are very upfront and honest about this fact.

Sticks.

Used my RA 9000 on the M25 the other day and it warned me of 'average speed camera'. Good, noted, cancelled the warning......and it immediately warned me again, and again etc. Switched it off, sorted.
