Yup! They all want to hang on to their place in the queue. Just haven't realised they are the reason there's a queue in the first place.
KER-CHINGGGG!

It's like everyone queuing in the 'priority' lane in an airport when the 'cattle' lane is empty!! LOL

(I've seen this happen!)

I must say, as a staunch L1 user wherever possible, it's becoming ever more difficult to actually use the lanes in which they were intended because there seems to be an increasing number of road users driving unnecessarily slowly causing HGVs and the like to have to spend more time overtaking and hence slowing/bunching the overtaking lanes. Not to mention creating a bigger speed differential so moving back to L1 becomes difficult because no sooner have you retreated then you have to pull back out again.

Having said that, I still managed to pass about 20 odd cars this morning doing 60-65 in lane 1 and even then the last spacktard I passed saw fit to close the sizeable gap in front of them as soon as my indicator started blinking when I wanted to pass the truck in front of me. furious
I too am finding most people are driving slower than people used to...must be to save fuel...I am finding doing 70 that I am overtaking 90% of the vehicles on the road.

Yup, I drew the same conclusion myself. The thing is though, I regularly pass what you'd consider to be 'performance' and 'luxury' cars being driven like Miss Daisy's on board!

If you're going to drive like that then buy a Micra FFS! Otherwise, stay off roads that have traffic trying to do almost x1.5 the speed you and the majority of other drivers want to!

I mean, there's a rule in the highway Code that states that if you're holding up traffic, (tractor, caravan, heavy), then you should pull over and allow others to pass! These tits don't realise that they're turning a free flowing road into something worse than a 'B' road as there's becoming less opportunity to overtake on motorways these days!

You all just seem to be creating unnecessary stress for yourselves. Why not just overtake/undertake without complaining? It doesnt cost you anything its just summat else for you to piss n moan about.

Cos they turn a perfectly usable three lane into a one lane. They are rolling road blocks, they are evidence that the great British public are crap on the roads and before any limits or other such niceties that we may relish are given, they need to be dealt with.

And this is PH, so complaining is part of the contract.....

Well that would be fine if, more often than not, the twunts didn't take exception to being passed then go out of their way to impede your progress deliberately by closing gaps and the like.

They have a quite sick mindset.

What he said.

Particularly annoying when there's a clear stretch of road ahead and some twunt is hogging the overtaking lane speed-matching the vehicle in the next lane, preventing me from passing furious I try not to get too wound up by it but it is really frustrating all the same. Get out of the bloody way or at least get a move on and complete your overtake FFS mad

I've noticed this too. People driving at 50-55 mph in L1, and they probably have no idea that the trucks are limited to 56 mph, and they are causing chaos for the truckers, and in turn everyone else. If they just drove at a touch above 56 mph, the improvement in traffic flow and safety for everyone else would be significant. I really feel for the truckers when they're doing the best they can, and are baulked by a slow driver, and have to pull out to 'elephant race' a car.
I try to stick to 65 mph when possible, for me it's the best mix of MPG and speed. I've noticed many people going far slower in L1 and they tend to be the monster engined German brutes, seems they've bought them, like the status and cost of the car but can't actually afford to run/drive the thing!

Another thing I've noticed is despite wagons allegedly being limited to 56 mph I struggle to catch up with many of them at 65 mph, not that I'm trying as I'd simply go faster, just something I noticed...

Just visiting Sydney in oz, they have middle hoggers here as well on the motorways, trucks as well, but generally driving here is so relaxed, drivers are curtious, rarely see anyone speeding, only thing annoying is when the lights go green in a junction, as you start to turn the ped lights in the road you're turning into are green.

On some junctions as well, like the states, you can turn left on a red if the road is clear.

That aside, supermarkets note, one of the biggest malls I have ever been to has TWO HOURS FREE PARKING.

Must dash and get the sun block out, looks like another 28+ today, centigrade that is, and topless sunbathing on the beach, its hard being a tourists, but I will manage.

(Sorry I got sidetracted from the theme of the post).

On the question of the Two Great Approaches to merging (i.e. at the paint or at the 800 yard post) and which is officially encouraged, I've just driven home along the A303.

The Highways Agency have just festooned some/all of the many merges between Countess and Mere with multiple "use both lanes to queue" signs and "merge in turn" signs.

Notably, the "use both lanes to queue" signs are repeated RIGHT UP UNTIL the "merge in turn" signs after the 200 yard marker.

So there.
