New Book by John Lyon
Discussion
Just spend a day and a half with John Lyon. Please be assured that, yes, there is a military background, but be not concerned, this is a gentleman that will respect you if you respect him. In other words, if you are driving at speed towards a hazard that he is more aware of than you are, when he asks you to brake, 'brake'!
My training was mostly an assessment of my Roadcraft - and he knows a great deal about it - but in addition, we spent some time at the Millbrook Proving Ground; once there, over a cuppa, we discussed the great drivers of the 60's who took part in John's HPC Course at Brands Hatch, including Clark and Hill, who both agreed to have HPC instruction from John on public roads. Then the dear boy announced in a very laid back way: "I'll just show you the way around". Off we went, and I must confess that my buttocks did twitch a couple of times as the pace was qualifying lap: not a tad slower than required, and not a tad quicker that required, just moving forward as fast as possible. And he's 74! Nuff said, but if you want to get alongside a master of Roadcraft {ex senior Police instructor at Hendon Metropolitan Police college} or a winner of 96 of the 200 national motor races he has competed in, a record achievement, then do so. Even Stirling has called it a day, and at some time, so will John. Get in there.
Justin.
