Blocked overtake on dash cam.
Discussion
Could it be advanced driving to accelerate over the speed limit before getting to the end of the 30 (assuming of course as is so often the case that it would be perfectly safe to do so)?
If you don't fancy that, and quite reasonably, do you think you could allow yourself to be overtaken, and then find a style of overtaking back which did not upset the other driver?
If not, do you think you should have the car painted a rather quieter colour?

When you overtake you should be prepared to deal with an idiot who will put their foot down to prevent you from passing.
Driving is not about winning. However, it is about never losing (in my opinion).
In this case the OP was overtaking an SUV driver very shortly after a roundabout. It was a powerful Audi Q-whatever.
Personally, I assume, under these circumstances that there is a stronger chance that they will behave in a dangerous way. This would have been background information.
I'm sure PHers drive Q-whatevers very well, however i'm wary of them due to experience.
After the Q-whatever accelerated I would have dropped back and kept my distance.
There is nothing you can 'teach' this kind of driver = keep them in front of you, and don't confront them. The OP was mad to confront the Q-whatever driver afterwards.

Out of all the german cars the Audi Qs seem to contain the most nobish of individuals, now I'm sure there are considerate drivers of Qs but on my current statistical tally I've not met them.
Often driving in the right hand lane on the motorway and not yielding when its possible or performing dangerous crap like in the OP they seem to invoke a mental attitude that they have to be in front of you at all costs or take every opportunity available to be a pain in the ass.

I get this a lot and often wonder what i should do, here is my situation.
Small village lets call it Pirbright, 30 mph then 20mph past a school then back to 30 then open, all on narrow roads. When it goes to open there is a nice long very straight if slightly bummpy road.
I will do the speed limit through the village then accelerate to 60 in the open section. Lots and I mean lots of cars sit up my boot in the lower limits as they like to do 40 everywhere. When we get to the open they pull out to try and over take, at this point I am starting to speed up to 60, I should at this point say that I drive a very yellow TVR.
Should I keep my foot down and not let them get past up to 60 or should I lift off and then sit behind them at 40 for the next few miles. Or wait for them to pull in then overtake.
I have tried all three and which ever way you go you get flashed and the finger its a no win situation.
When I had a reasonably powerful car (well, one with lots of torque anyway) I used to get annoyed by this too. At 30mph a very small change in speed is quite noticeable, so if I had someone like that on my tail I'd accelerate very gently just at the point where I thought they might begin to overtake. Only to an indicated 35 or so, so probably only about 32.Small village lets call it Pirbright, 30 mph then 20mph past a school then back to 30 then open, all on narrow roads. This usually put enough doubt in their mind as to whether or not I was going to boot it for us to get to the end of the 30 zone without them overtaking. Obviously I'd be in the right gear to then accelerate rapidly to 60. If they still wanted to get past I'd try to help as much as I could by positioning the car to enable them to see past as much as possible. Some did (often seemingly out of principle) but most carried on at their own speed, disappearing over the horizon, only to appear glued to the boot again in the next village.
Such is life.
pblake: you're right you can't win! If you stay at the slow speed in the faster limit (because you're already being overtaken) then you're stuck whilst they all come past; if you accelerate .. etc etc.
The Highway Code doesn't differentiate between types of car. The rules are the same for Audis, TVRs etc. The only concession to this thinking is that you can predict the potential acceleration of a particular type of car, but you could get caught out by a wolf in sheep's clothing.
But back to the OP, definitely wrong to overtake before the National Speed Limit if you were exceeding it to get past, and if everyone was up to the limit just before it (I say "if" because this position can't be quite clear from the video, not on my computer screen anyway.) But if it was a 30 or 40, and if the Audi was doing 30 or 40, then he booted it at the sign, there's nothing wrong with that. An unpopular view, but he would be keeping to the law and you weren't. Different though if he was doing say 25 in a 40 . . .

You've got to bear in mind he thinks he's the bks in that thing so how dare you overtake? Black wheels and everything tells its own story. He'll have got it through family money nobody I know has a vehicle like that without their parents giving them cash, a directorship or property. On balance of probabilities he will also be overweight and use hair product.

I don't think I would have attempted the overtake just before the NSL sign. You do not know whether or not the driver intends to accelerate firmly as he passes the speed limit change. Obviously the driver shouldn't speed up once you are alongside but that possibility is factored into your decision to overtake. The possibility, is just too great when driving into an NSL.
Sums up my thoughts too. Prior to the attempt, the Q7 looked like he was going to be pressing on. Still a 's trick though.Come on mate - there are plenty of other bad drivers out there driving all sorts of machinery.
But IMHO the Audi driver was totally in the wrong. If another car came round the bend whilst the car was level with the Q7, there would have been a fatality. I'm surprised the OP has not given this video to the old bill.
Mad.

IMHO an over eager (Not very advanced) overtake. Jumping the gun before the NL sign has aggravated the Audi driver who then over reacts ultimately ending up most in the wrong by far. OP reacts totally correctly to the OTT reaction to his mis-timed overtake, but ultimately is to blame in an advanced driving sense because he has failed to drive defensively therefore putting himself in that situation.
Obviously I have never done this myself

So, is it possible to drive defensively and overtake (as overtaking puts one outside another car who can then block your return)?Obviously I have never done this myself

Overtaking defensively would probably involve assessing the target a bit more than was the case here.Waiting until the NSL to see how the Audi reacts would have been good, as would the classic 'triangle' overtake. Using this technique, you get a good indication of how the target will react to being overtaken before committing to anything.

Mmm disagree. By pulling out early I had plenty of time to react whatever the q7 did hence even though he intentionally blocked me there was no danger as I still had a clear line of sight to the road ahead. You can kind of tell in the video that the bend is slight with good visibility so in theory I could have kept going but was sensible to first come off the accelerator then moderarely apply the brakes (you can see the car pitch down then down a little more in the video this is when the Audi hoots off) as it was clear at that point the Audi was playing games. Attempting later would have just made the situation worse as I guarantee he would have reacted in the same way leaving me with very little time to decide what to do. Don't think this thread will ever end. Interesting to get everyone's opinions though.
