Bit disappointed to see there is not a group for York/North Yorks, largest county in the country.
What about these groups in Yorkshire?

Its not like down South, Yorkshire is a big place!

Might drop them an email but suspect they'll be too far away to be viable.

North East group looks like Sunderland 90min away

West Yorkshire looks like Wakefield so 45 main

South Yorks and East Riding will be cat least an hour.

Re. the marketing question. I was 4 or 5 drives in to the skill for life program before I was asked what level I was aiming for. That observer I believe was/is also active with rospa.

My test was today. The examiner recommended continuing with the aim of getting a first next time.

So in my local group at least there is a push towards first but it's not overtly marketed as such.

It's not hugely different in some parts of the South. There are RoSPA bike tutors in London, but who are members of the Sussex-based group 50 miles away. It's definitely worth contacting all the groups within an hour of you, because you may get lucky and find one has a tutor closer to you. Failing that, you could always meet a tutor halfway.

Although the group HQ may be miles away there is a good chance there will be an observer near you

All you then have to do is to go to the observer

If you mean ROSPA then yes

Not always several runs - each driver is different so its not a one size fits all

If any group states something like 6 runs on a sunday every other week followed by test then beware !

Yes, the IAM and RoSPA are essentially the same. In fact, many will argue that RoSPA's the better of the two. (Though I don't wish to reopen that debate, as it's been argued plenty of times.)
