All possible umbrage dissipated with a cheery wave?

Why three horn notes?
No wave, offence is taken not given. tongue out Three notes because that's what came out when I pipped the horn! To attract attention you want short tones, but a single one has a chance of being missed or ignored. Two or three short, sharp notes grabs attention without sounding aggressive (a la one long, hard beep). No bike riders were smeared across the road, I got a nice overtake in, and managed to get back up to NSL. Win/win.

I have a tendency in as many situations as possible to give a courtesy wave, just in case a horn note/flash of lights is taken in the wrong way.

I agree with the short notes sounding less aggressive. And,
overtaking twelve mods makes you Rocker Numero Uno!

Yes, joking aside (hence the tongue smiley) I do normally use a courtesy wave on my way past. byebye I didn't this time however, as there were so bloody many of them it was fairly pointless.

I queried the three notes as I was wondering whether it was due to the spread of bikes, the noise, etc. But I think your "two or three" has cleared it up (?).

I use the horn quite often here as, although I adjust my speed first (deaf, headphones, stupidity, etc), people often wander aimlessly into the road without a care in the world. I recall last week I used my usual short "pup" that became a "pup, pup" as I initially thought I had not pressed the horn hard enough and pressed it twice in quick succession to make sure. Is that what you meant by two or three, or was there something else that meant three was preferable?
