Hi guys regularly take this roundabout, ad every now and then there are conflicts

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.6028749,-1.55158...

Coming off the M1 South sliproad and wanting to take the A637 towards Barnsley.
2 lanes, white dividing line never moves over to show a move to the left, now is there a gap to signify a transition although this is there on the old overhead shot.
No signs to suggest lane use or road markings on approach.

I use the left lane, passing Haigh Lane and the M1 entry sliproad, this way I stay in 1 lane and do not need to move over. I never move alongside another vehicle ensuring there is room for a vehicle in the right lane to move over infront of me but sometimes a second vehicle will look to move round the inside and place himself alongside me.

Any thoughts?

Given that it's dual carriageway entry and dual carriageway exit, I don't think either lane will be 'wrong', particularly if, like me, you endeavour to never have another vehicle alongside. I think the only thing that would make me prefer lane 2 would be if local knowledge tells me that a large proportion of the traffic in lane 1 will turn hard left rather than continuing north.

Sounds like you imagining coming from m1 going northbound at 6 o clock. I'm coming from the m1 southbound, past the left for Haigh and the m1 entry/exits and then taking what is the 3rd exit.

If I were to be driving down that southbound exit slip for the first time and saw the road sign on the left half way down the slip, I'd see that the Barnsley exit is past the 12 o'clock position, so, barring any road markings or subsequent signs, I'd be in the right lane on entering the roundabout. Experience might tell me otherwise.

Oops just edited to say right lane!

As above - R lane in absence of markings and particularly as there two exits before yours. I would then move left after the S bound entry lane to the M1.

I always get the feeling that those who stay in the same lane irrespective of their intended exit from a roundabout 'cannot drive' or are old people who find it difficult doing their overshoulder checks - the lazy driver. Not necessarily you of course.

By your reckoning who is going to use the inside/ R lane if someone going around 3/4 of a roundabout does not use it - ???
