Were you R_U_Local on Barryboys? If so, you used to make me laugh until it hurt with your exploits in Royston Vasey.

Used to be his handle on here as well. smile - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I'm fortunate to have had a drive out with him. What I hadn't realised was how long ago that was. eek Time I ventured north again for another session.

The video teaches applying enough gas to maintain speed through a bend before or as you start to steer. This video was about balance and did not deal with limit points which Reg has covered in other videos. I have posted the following comment under the video on YouTube. Looking forward to reactions here:

"As a Masters Mentor I also encourage this technique. However Reg, I'd like to hear you explain the difference between this teaching and track instruction which is generally to trail brake - that is, to brake into the bend, blending the brakes off as you blend the steering on. As well as generally being quicker on track, trail braking on the road means that if the bend tightens or an unexpected hazard comes into view you are already on the brakes - and can firm them up with no transition time and no upset to the balance of the car."

Very insightful videos thank you.

The one part of driving I need to brush up on is motorways.
I did see episode 26 which was great, but would like a video more in depth about approaching slip roads A) when we are already on the motorway and B) when we are joining a motorway.. Also observations on busy motorways when switching lanes etc and what to look out for.

I'm the generation who wasn't allowed on motorways (passed my test in 2011) but only started driving 18 months ago

Thank you !

Just checked out your video on "Overtaking"! The visuals and pacing were captivating. It's impressive to see such content. Keep up the great work, and I'm eager to see more of your uploads in the future!

Posting here for lack of a better place - I've been watching a lot of the videos lately as I'm shortly doing a driving course, 2 days with CAT driver training, so reminding myself of things I may have forgotten, as it's been a little while (did IAM a decade ago now!).

I am increasingly spending more time driving EVs - fully electric cars, and wonder how the system applies? Part of me ponders if there's more to it than simply removing the 'gear' phase ('IPSA')? I'd love to see Reg do a video with an EV, to see and understand how he approaches the differences in propulsion, like one-pedal driving, and so forth.

Please keep up the superb work, your videos are such a great resource.

@Reg – How about doing a video for drivers about how to overtake cyclists?

Yes, I know, you’ve already covered overtaking in previous videos. However, the cycling community might promote a concise video on tips for overtaking cyclists. Maybe a YouTube Short on 3-stage overtaking tips?

Many drivers appear unconfident about being offside (not realising when it’s safer, such as part of a 3-stage overtake, compared to passing a cyclist too close). Overtaking is hardly taught for the L-test, and, as a cyclist, I would feel far safer if more drivers were aware of 3-stage overtaking as a tool in their driving toolkit. I realise it’s not the only overtaking technique, but 3-stage overtaking awareness could help reduce the odd close pass.

It’s on my list for the new year.
