Overtaking in corners - why the objection?
Discussion
Have not, apart from VERY slow moving vehicles, overtaken for years. Much safer far more relaxing. And yes, I do leave a sufficient gap for anyone who wishes to O/T me. As for curves and corners, never. Although reading this thread there are as many excuses for doing same as there are hazards in the actual manoevre.
Depends on the location. Been on holiday to Croatia a fair few times, regularly overtook in places like this: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@43.2703374,16.70281...
Completed overtakes here on many occasions (as did locals), perfectly sighted around the bay and yu can even pull off the heroic "take them up the inside" overtake to satisfy the inner racing driver! (provided you know they've seen you that is)

Reckless and rash.
Why?Why?
As a follow-up question, if you haven't overtaken anything quicker than a tractor in years, why are you even qualified to comment?

So why not answer the original question: what is inherently reckless and rush about overtaking a line of cars?
Depends what you can see or what you cannot see, also the risk of someone not noticing a small yellow sports car and pulling out on you, excessive speed to overtake (it is a Welsh A road after all), junctions that are invisible, hazards like mud on the road (rural area's especially bad for it), cyclists (saw a few mad ones out last week in the rain in Wales) and wildlife, you don't need sheep to cause you issues in Wales! Oh and I should say that I have been on the receiving end of a car driver that decided to overtake a line of traffic, brow of the hill and I had to come to a complete standstill before he hit me, and it was pretty close and only about half as many cars (and 1 truck), wasn't a pleasant experience, especially that only a year before there was a fatal incident on that same part of road.

It's BECAUSE I only OT 'tractors' that I can legitimately comment. I have seen the downside of OT over the years and have completed my fair share of dodgy overtakes. It's time to take it easy.
Rather than stopping overtaking, have you considered driver training to help you identify safe overtaking opportunities and have the confidence to carry out the manoeuvres?NNH said:
