Heres a link to Reg Locals Overtaking video and the thread.

Thanks for the coment.

I am going to call the overtake that the vehicle doing the overtaking accelerates from behind the Swoop.
THis method is what we all naturally fall into from passing our tests. Were scared to be on the wrong side of the road so lets get it over with ASAP. This method can lead to exesive speed when the manouver is completed. The driver has to work at controling the car that is basically turning under hard aceleration with transfered weight through the manouver. Possibly road limits could be breached eg a wheel on the grass. A lot of high powered sports motorcycles really exadgerate the swoop when out for a blast in the sun. Scary stuff. Comoting on a limited view and loading the bike up.

Roadcrafts method giove an opt out. The move out can be described as to 'have a look' if its still on go. Firm acceleration angling back across asap without infringing the overtake'ee.

A way to pracrtice the roadcraft overtake, to move out without accelerating is to do it on a dual carriage way or motorway. To build that new practice of not accelerating. cruise along at 50 to 60 mph ish. When coming up on a vehicle in front, hold station. Do your lane change procedure, miirror signal etc. Move out no acceleration. All good firm accelerate through. Dont spook other road users.

This will help bulid the assesment stage. It can then be built on on single carrige ways where the. Oservation etc will be key.

Without complicating this when following a potential overtake'ee vision on bend and crests will count ot even consider an oportunity. eg looking to the inside past the vehicle in front on long left bends. A right will be easier but ythe full vewi comes a tad later. Think of the angles. Its all in the book. Be ware of misinturpreting it. Insruction will build the methods quicker and with accurate demostrations.
