Just [most likely] written off an old and trusty Fiesta at the weekend and was hoping to hear some views as to the incident (apologies if not the correct forum).

Here is the scene:

I am arriving at the traffic lights in the far left lane looking to turn left onto Childs Way. My lane is clear and traffic light has turned green so I do not come to a stationary stop, I keep going whilst there is stationary traffic in the lane to the right of me. As I pass the traffic light, a car from said lane turns left into my lane and our front wheels collide. My driver-side front wheel crumbles, probably axle/suspension damage as well as bodywork dents on the wheel arch. Other car has minor bodywork damage just before the passenger-side front wheel. I don't recall the car indicating but can't be sure, regardless, which party is to blame here? I can't help but think that I am not to blame here (obviously wink).

The insurance company will be getting back to me in the coming days but I assume it will be a case of split liability from their point of view given no witness statements or anything, right?

Cheers.

In the absence of any other information it sounds like the other driver's fault totally.

I agree. If the other guy had done the M bit at the start of MSM, then it wouldn't have happened.

My experience of driving these days is that there's very little Mirror and plenty of simultaneous SM.

With no witnesses, you'll have your story and they'll have theirs... Chances are each story will paint a scene where that driver is the victim and the other driver is at fault.

If it was only your front wheels that hit, and there is no damage to the front of your bumper, and if the other driver admits that he was changing lane (rather than accusing you of changing lane).... Then the insurance has to side with you.

Yep, that's the risk.

It's never a great idea to dive down a clear lane next to a stationary or slow-moving one, just after lights have changed - for precisely this reason. A bit of caution, and the expectation that somebody's going to decide that they're buggered if they're sitting stationary with clear road next to them, never hurt anybody.

Sounds like it's obviously the other persons fault. They crossed over the lane markings into your lane when it wasn't free to do so.

From what I understood, did the driver to your right effectively change lanes in front of you? If so, I'd say it was entirely their fault as they didn't check before manoeuvring.

What was the outcome?

You had right of way as you were within lane and proceeding; other party needs to give way to any traffic in your lane before entering it.
