I've always believed that every time I'm surprised as in: "didn't see that coming" I probably wasn't paying enough attention, or let the car get 'in front of me'.

This has happened a couple of times over the past few months and I reckon I could benefit from a refresh.

I've found these guys local to me - has anyone experience of them please?

Highly recommended by lots of people on here in previous threads.

When you say refresher - what have you done in the past? I would probably recommend having a good understanding of Roadcraft before seeing Andy or Clive to ensure you get the most out of it.

I went out with Andy following my IAM course last year and his insight into things I could improve on was remarkable. He could pick out problems with my driving, common situations where they were occurring and suggest things to work on to try and improve. I came away very positive and enjoying my driving much more.

You're lucky being in Banbury, I travelled up from Brighton to see him - and some people a lot further. I would definitely recommend contacting him to discuss what you'd like to get out of a refresher etc.

Thanks for the comments - I'll get in touch with them.

I first did a police better driving course in the 70's, and then a couple of BSM advanced days about 20 yrs ago! I do need to dig out my copy of Roadcraft though.

Beginning to wonder what bad habits are ingrained now!

Don't bother looking for it!

Turning up with a copy of Roadcraft that's about three editions out of date won't be too impressive. Buy the latest copy. Unless, of course, you're brave enough to tough it out and argue that your edition is ... "so much better than any subsequent editions in which everything is just dumbed down to the lowest common denominator. And, while I'm about it, we don't want to know about the "European Goals for Driver Education" [GDE] in the latest edition because we are soon to leave Europe".biggrin

Actually, I've changed my mind. Save your money and take your old edition along.read

Hi Paul,

I'm an ADI with some experience of advanced driving and I live in Banbury too! I'd be happy to go for a drive with you some time, see if I can offer any advice, no charge.

It depends what you are looking to achieve.
'Advanced' Driving skills ?
A top up on some basics?
Build confidence?
Rekindle skills you had but that have since lapsed?

Why not join your local RoSPA/RoADAR group , get free observations and tutoring and take your Advanced Driving test.
Or, go the IAM route

Going to Andy or Clive (HPC) will, dependent upon your existing skills, be an'eye-opener' for you.

If you are looking for the HPC route that's good. But you will need a thorough understanding of Roadcraft and be able to demonstrate that into you driving ability just for starters!

I disagree.

Why bother with the IAM or RoSPA, when a top professional coach like Andy Morrison is on the OP's doorstep? I'd go straight to Andy, because the instruction's guaranteed to be top notch. Whereas the IAM experience varies according to the luck of the draw as to whether you get a decent IAM Observer.
