StressedDave,

Would you be able to post a video clip to demonstrate that? Or, better still, two clips - one of a mere mortal and one of an acknowledged exponent of the art, driving the same challenging car at a recognised test facility?

It's perfectly safe to travel above, and sometimes well above the national speed limit if you know what you're doing.

It's not legal, of course, and speaking corporately I can't recommend it...

But come on - When instructing, and when I'm working, I have a conditional exemption from speed limits, and I've driven, perfectly safely, at speeds which would make some people's eyes water. I wouldn't do that if it weren't safe, as I want to go home to my family and my tea.

If you choose to do it yourself, that's up to you, but always remember that basic safe stopping rule...

Always be able to stop on your own side of the road, in the distance you can see to be clear.

Interesting comments from one in your position.
That used to be the prevalent view amongst Traffic Officers who would use their discretion when about their duties.
What was their saying, something about if you didn't use your rear view mirrors you deserved to be stopped for excessive speed?
Now, that Human element is all but gone as modern technologies take over.
I used to enjoy driving, if I wanted to travel some distance I would travel in the early morning or late at night, knowing that I could "make progress" so long as I was sensible and observant.
Now, for any distance, budget airlines aren't yet vulnerable to cameras of various types.
Oops, that's my carbon footprint down the pan.
