Having a great deal of experience with nervous passengers they will only be listening to the tone of voice.

You would do just as well to engage them in a lovely chat about something they are interested in.

All you would do with commentary would be to heighten their awareness of each hazard as it is identified.

That wont relax them.
Or drive in manner that gives them confidence and doesn't scare them witless. There's no point in being a clever advanced driver if it scares passengers witless. That's not very clever.

My mum always says this. When she takes me out to practice it goes something like this:

Mum: It's a blind junction so you need to start braking.
Sharief: Okay
M: Start braking
S: I am
M: Why aren't you braking?!
S: I am braking.
M: START BRAKING NOW OR I WON'T TAKE YOU OUT AGAIN!
S: I AM BRAKING!
M: BRAKE! AND DON'T SHOUT AT ME.

  • Car stops 10 metres before junction*
M: Why have you stopped so far back?

Silly woman.rolleyes
