Hopefully this will benefit someone here.

I bought the skill for life some time ago, £85 i think it cost me? Anyhow, ive not gotten round to doing it and doubt i will?

Does anybody want the pack? I presume the name can be changed on it.

Dont really want anything for it.

Why don't you want to do it anymore?

Honestly think it's the best £75 I've spent in a long time!

Alex,

A very thoughtful and generous offer, which I hope someone will benefit from...and hope that you will find time in the future to pursue your interest in further driving education.

I could copy a link here to a BBC News report today about the daughter of one of our neighbours...we saw the girl growing up, walking to school with our kids...laughing and joking in the street as they came home.

She was a passenger in a car which hit a tree on a dual carriageway last week..and died on Friday...I choose not to copy the link, as it might be an invasion of private grief.

One day, the IAM course...or ANY further driver education course...will be mandatory ?

BOF.

Or driving will have been dumbed down to cater for the lowest skill level, with electronic limits on everything we do, that Roadcraft will be a useless, distant memory...

OT, I'd recommend doing it for yourself mate - even two hours a week, not too much time to find, and its hugely rewarding to get through an advanced test, but knowing you've learnt a whole lot more...

It's a road driving course which is run by local groups which are affiliated to the Institute of Advanced Motorists.

Don't let the title of the organisation put you off! It sounds (IMO) quite old-fashioned and stuffy.

The training is very worthwhile and, dare I say it, quite good fun. Depending on the group and how quickly you pick up the approach which is shown to you, you'll get anything between about 12 and 24 hours of driving coaching for a total of £85. The £85 includes the charge for the IAM's Advanced Driving Test. You don't have to do the test, but it's a nice "thank you" to your observer (coach) if you do.

The coaching will cover a range of areas including cornering, effects of weight transfer, the "System of Car Control" (a method for dealing with hazards) and lots of other stuff too. Basically, it's quite similar to what you would learn on the first couple of weeks of a police driving course.

I did mine in 2000 and haven't looked back since.

Try it - you'll like it and get a lot out of it.

Feel free to post any questions or PM me with them.

regards
Nick
