Unless you're changing down from sixth, I don't understand why that would need DDC. Even cars with no synchro at all will usually snick up through the 'box without DDC.

Engaging any two cogs going at different speeds without any attempt to time them together, will result in a graunch, & further wear, particularly if one has the weight of the engine sometimes behind it, the other the road wheel speed

I'm not suggesting smacking it into gear without using the clutch.

Friction does a nice job of slowing the gearbox internals down which removes a lot of the need for synchro going up the box. Of course that works against you on the way down.
