Im sure this is covered elsewhere but just thought id ask if anyone had experienced this.

When following a line of traffic and looking for places to overtake It seems that if you look likely to overtake, ie drop back then accelrate but at the last second do not because of a hazard then the person you would have overtaken closes the gap in front of them.

Also a second point is that according to roadcraft you should use the full width of the road if safe to asses potential overtaking oportunities. I tried this on the single carriageway A19 north of york on Sunday. As I moved out to overtake the car following closed the gap I was leaving, luckily I could overtake but had I needed to come back in would have caused a big accident. I also completed an overtake that I would not normally. I know we cant stop these numpties until real world driving is actually included in a compulsory test but surely the whole rational world can see that the biggest problem is a lack of skill and ability to think while driving that speed or bad roads.
