LS3 for the Tuscan

boosted cerb does have a t56 in it but the exhaust is very low , he has no problem with it but i live in birmingham and i could not get home in one with the exhaust lower than he chassis due to speed bumps. i would allways fit a t56 in a conversion if it works BUT in a tvr I dont think it works but that is my opinion .
There is a Tuscan with an LS/T56Ive seen it, the pipes are Not Low

They have to be, not unless he has compressed the gearbox and/or the pipes?Ive seen it, the pipes are Not Low
Depends on what your view of too low is though...

Hold on, you've not seen the car. Could have jacked up suspension or side exit pipe through the front wings like the Napier Bentley: http://www.airshows.org.uk/2008/airshows/brookland...

Boosted Cerb once posted a picture to show that his pipes were not low at all.
Pics herehttp://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
looks only just below the chassis rail to me,plenty of room

and most of them dont now
you are clearly trying to trash this forum for anybody interested in DIY conversions
I was chatting to boosted cerb ( Richard I think sorry for forgetting names ) at santapod and had a look under his car and the pipes are low , to low for round here i would not get home in it !! Or onto my drive , but he has has no problems with it . He has done a really good job on it , and is a nice guy who has got on and done one himself !! . If people want to use a t56 then they can I am just offering my option ( as I've done 30 + Ls powered cars ) , I like to get the pipes above the chassis if poss ,

But high enough to get away with imo
If it saves you £1500 on a box and can have 6 gears, Id go that way
And that's fair enough, but I wouldn't and that's why I sold my T56 on to get a TKO. As always on this thread - it's not about right way/wrong way but what's important to you individually and what compromises you want to make along the way.If it saves you £1500 on a box and can have 6 gears, Id go that way
The fact is though that these pipes are routed lower than standard, and lower than you can run them with a TKO. It was a while ago that I looked at pics of Rich's magnificent conversion but IIRC his aren't as low as the ones here (but are still below the chassis rails).
As always it is a compromise, and as such opinions vary, and what you tolerate as acceptable depends on your intended use/driveway etc..
But the people who have actually done one seem to agree (mostly), if you are going to argue from behind your keyboard all very well, but some people here are offering been there and done it advice!
We offered T56 up in my chassis when we built it, for me it wasnt an option.
But the 6th on Mway would be nice

I though my ears were burning
Don't think my car is particularly high.....145mm front 150mm rear measured from the corners of the outriggers.... I thought that was low???
Just measured the lowest point of the exhaust to the garage floor, measures 100mm as it runs past the bell housing. I remember measuring the clearance on my Skyline GTR exhaust and setting the Cerb the same.
Can't remember having an issue with the exhaust hitting speed ramps but as Craig said I don't live anywhere near a city.
My exhaust is massively over sized, its twin 3" tube, I choose this because I didn't want to get a restriction due to my crap welding and if needed I could add divots to clear stuff. No need for a scavenging effect with a blower It does run very close to the chassis rails so I've wrapped the exhaust to protect the chassis paint. Never had an issue with it knocking or touching anything, I run polybush engine mounts and mini exhaust rubber mounts under the silencers to the chassis girdle.
As it happened I only had to add a couple divots so the exhaust would pass the 5/6th gear housing, these are about 3/4" deep and about 3" long. For the rest of the exhaust it runs pretty much within the chassis rails with the chassis girdle lowered by 20mm so I could fit the silencers underneath the prop shaft. These are 600mm long 3" straight through. Exhaust then runs under the diff and out the back no more silencers needed.
This image probably shows the install a bit clearer
Heres a set up pic before welding showing silencer position.
Final one of one the ground.
TKO is obviously the better choice as not only does it make the exhaust a piece of cake but the shifter pops up it the correct position. I've got the shifter position as good as its gonna get thanks to Omerta but this year I need to relieve some of the fibreglass around where it pops up through, The shifter is ok but its very close in sideways movement.....I'll have to have a feel of your knob Brumm!!! Its also imperative the rubber surround around the shifter is refitted otherwise you get hot smelly air entering the cabin
If I did it again, I'd still fit a T56 but run the exhaust in 2.5" this would make it easier to pass the engine/bell housing and then do something trick below the 5/6th gear housing welding a rectangle pipe in to keep the pipe height down but still keeping the same cross section area maybe, proably incorparate the balance pipe there. As with the current setup, its a bit trail and error and not really an option for doing on a customers car definitely one for those stupid enough to do it themselves!!!
Rich.

I was wondering how they look like, then I came acros this pictue
L to R= Tremec T-5 five-speed- TKO five-speed- and T-56 six-speed
are those the same boxes as talked about?

Simples when put like that and the torque rating of each is know! L to R= Tremec T-5 five-speed- TKO five-speed- and T-56 six-speed

Low compared to what tho?? The Cerb above would NOT get on my drive or into the garage, had to raise the suspension on mine & it's lot higher than the Cerb, but the owner has no problems Ive seen it, the pipes are Not Low
