Yep I will definatly give that offer some serious thought and I expect I will get back to you say in about five years wink. I have been looking at the Dyno graph that came with the engine and have compared it with what I had on the 4.5lt on carbs. Interestingly the extra 500cc adds a good amount of torque , possibly a bit high up the rev range but that can be brought down with some mapping. I have not seen a dyno graph before so am still in the dark a bit as to how the engine will feel in the real world, once I have transmission loss etc. The trick will be setting it up so on gear change we still drop the next gear shift into the thick of the torque. All exciting stuff.
I am not sure what configuration your carbs were, I am assuming downdraft. The crossover manifold adds a bit of torque with the longer inlets vs downdraft. As you mentioned the additional 500cc certainly adds torque as well. Ian Rose's 5.2JE with the same manifold and TBs you have is a torque monster, pins you back in your seat in every gear. The dyno was roughly 400BHP and well over 400 torques at the fly. Ian's is running an H324 cam though so your higher lift cam will be more setup for BHP than torque. Either way I don't think you will be short of torque.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts when you get yours up and running and mapped. The TBs and crossover or on my list as and when any funds become available.

The engine spec of my engine will be very similar to all the other serious engines as that from experience is what works the best. I,m not trying to invent the wheel. The x over manifold and TB,s I hope will give me a bit more mapping scope over carbs. My set up was quad 48 dellorto down draft with tvr short manifold al a Challenge spec. Big Carbs, let there be no mistake, are pretty awesome for supporting big power, Iv,e loved them for 12 years.

I will be fitting these to my engine over the winter and wondered if any one could post up pictures of how they have routed the cold air to them on their install. Just want to get a feel for what others have done. Cheers

Thanx for that picture , I had seen it. That is the set up I am going for with slightly different arrangement for cold air feed. More dyno work has been done since that picture was taken.

Best of luck with the install Perry.

Two questions. How is the alternator mounted in the centre and what make and model is it exactly?

Why is your water pump pulley, a double? Does it run something else ?

I noticed a oil pump drive there .. so probably a double to space it out.

Alternation might be a Brise.

Hi Peter,

Hope you ok and well, it is from a boat engine but you could use a small komatsu digger version. The pictures should answer any other questions although there is some fine tuning to do to the bottom hanging but near enough. You could use a Brise unit, better quality and much more money to boot. If I had a bigger budget I would go Brise or Vosp not much to choose between either of those. Basically all of them are a Denso unit . I'm already into three race entries so pennies are tight at the moment although having said that Yanmar is good stuff for the money, i'm told by my local boat yard.

Alan your right double pulley to clear the oil pump drive, I was hoping to mount alternator to the hanging bracket of the pump but the exhaust pipe gets in the way and after more thought and consideration more heat down there to deal with.

Here's my crossover manifold and throttle bodies based on a Pierburg mechanical injection manifold as developed for British Leyland Motorsport TR7 V8 rally cars in 1979. Originally I bought it as a bare casting and have been working to develop the manifold to a modern EFi setup.

Putting me to shame with the little work I have had to do. Will be good for you to post up here what you have been doing to them ETC.
A bit more progress in the right direction now. Just ordered the water hoses, fuel pump, filters etc and new swirl pot , and all the wiring should be going in soon as.

Ok the engine is in and running. Tested last weekend at Castle Combe GT's with not such a good out come as some of you will already know. Up shot of the mishap was a split oil line, resulting in one lap, could have happened to any car so that is that. Oil line replaced and moving forward to Silverstone in two weeks. Will let you know in real world what the car feels like once we get some laps in. In the mean time..........................

As you can see from the graph dotted line is what we had with old engine , solid line new engine. More work to be done on mapping as it is ultra safe at the moment until we get some miles on it, then it will be remapped to full potential . Looking at it we can do a bit more certainly around the 4700 to 5700 mark. Also bear in mine this has been tuned for the track and you would want to move the power and torque up for road use I would think. As I say I will let you know how we get on shortly.

What is the engine spec, ECU and cam? or is that a secret wink

Got it, thanks. Looking forward to seeing if there is anymore to come. 400BHP from a 5.0 NA engine is already an incredible result. You must be very pleased with that!

yes very pleased will be more pleased once I get to drive it properly and report back. I always use the Omex 710 brilliant bit of kit ,several thousands of £'s less than other ECU installs I have read about on PH. some people are paying 3.5k just for a after market ECU madness and not required in my opinion & experience.
