Bump.
I now have a turbo RV8 that's producing 458hp and 554 lb/ft torque. I realise the standard T5 may be on borrowed time which prevents me from using all that torque on offer and so would like to know the best option for an upgrade. Modify T5 or choose another box?
[With the response in 5th I keep going for another gear]!

most of the guys running cobra replicas fitted with high chevys and fords use the tko 600. rare to hear of failures, parts are easy and bell housings available to swap from different engines pretty easily. they're not that expensive either considering the costs associated with strengthening other boxes.

the gear change is a little more agricultural than a t5 and the lack of a synchro on reverse is embarrassing if you forget to snick it in 4th before engaging reverse....

the 6060 is my favourite, but it is big and heavy, not ideal if you want to be lightest and fastest and lowest.....

Derek,

I run one of these 'built' T5's which I imported new from the US some years back, other than a flush of trans fluid annually I've never had a problem. even though my car does not see the strip, I think it's weighs in at a good few hundred kilo's more than your vehicle (1700kg) and I'm no pussy on the loud pedal.

I converted my De Tomaso from auto to stick with the T5 after a friend in Aus had his car similarly modified.

My DT currently runs a 408ci stroked Ford Cleveland with 425lb's or torque.

and here's an article on this company's T5 conversions

I finally added a Steeda shifter after consulting all the Mustang 302 racers on one of the US forums.
