Looking for a cheap winter hack and an S80 seems to fit the bill quite nicely. The 2.9's seem to go for less money than the 2.4's. Apart from the difference in fuel economy is there any reason not to get a 2.9? Is the 2.9 the same as used in the S/V 90?

I'm not a fan of the 2.9 litre "six" they id no benefit over the 2.4. Although it should be noted that a lot of the 2.4 litre five cylinder s80's have what's known as the "denso" engine and whilst this essentially the same as all the other five cylinders Volvo make, all the ancilery parts are made by denso and are not only not as good as the more familiar Bosch components but also far more expensive to replace. Despite this, Out of the two I'd still have a 2.4
