Hi all,
My 57 plate Volvo s40 1.6 diesel recently developed a DPF fault.
I took the car to a specialist who confirmed that the DPF fliter was indeed blocked and beyond repair.
The garage recommended removal of said filter & re map of the engine management system as opposed to a hefty bill with Volvo who would have simply replaced the filter. As i understand it, the part alone is over £700!

So, they went ahead and did the work but on driving the car home the anti skid service light came (DSTC spin control off) on & the car went into limp mode!!
I have taken the car back to them numerous times , but their diagnostics was showing no fault.
So basically they had no clue!!
They gave me a refund but got me to sign a disclaimer that this error was not necessarily as a result of the re map work etc!

Last week i took the car to another re map specialist centre who were confident they could fix the problem.
The same error has returned this morning on my way to work with the anti skid lights & car going into limp mode!!

I would be grateful if anyone has any practical knowledge of this problem.
I have lost confidence in the so called specialists, but taking the car back to Volvo main dealer is a last resort now due to what is certainly going to be a big bill!!

You need someone in your locality with a Dice unit and Vadis on a laptop. Unfortunately I'm a bit north. Check on http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/ - you may get someone to help

Is removing the DPF not a bit like removing the Cat, i.e. come MOT you're MOT Man is not going to pass it?

I'm not sure either way.

Some info here

You cannot remove the DPF on these cars, the ECU will not function. The traction control system is integrated into the engine ECU which is why you are having this problem. I don't know of anyone who has managed to do this successfully. The reason for this is the car has an extra tank besides the fuel tank that requires filling with DPF cleaning fluid when empty in a Volvo dealership.

The car has a system whereby a small amount of this fluid is injected into the tank every time you fill it. This is supposed to keep the DPF clean. It simply doesn't work if you do short, urban journeys for most of the time.

The solution is to renew the DPF and forget about the tank, because Volvo charge in excess of £100 to refill it: it's simply a scam. I supply Wynn's Diesel Power3 that you add to the tank around every 4th fill and that works better than anything else.

I supply and fit a new DPF for around £580: Volvo's prices are, and always have been, utterly outrageous.

Purely out of interest and research into this sort of problem, can I ask where you buy your diesel from? Also do you always use the same filling station?
