So list of things to do is:

...Re root the vacuum pipe thingy and check the one way valve works

...Aux belt this also has a small annoying squeak come to think of it, thought it might be a belt. It's also about due a cam belt + tensioner so might leave that till then.

...Strut seat
That'll cover it smile

I paid for my struts and spring seats to be done frown

For reference it cost me £225 labour (3hrs) to fit new rear struts (they were knackered), new front struts, front spring seats (they were falling apart) and strut mounts. That was on a C70 but should give you an idea of cost if you gave it to a garage to do. I supplied all the parts. I had thought about doing it myself but it was December and cold, wet and dark...

So nice, you posted it twice lol.

Being about 20% smaller, the C70 stuff is a fair bit easier to change than the P2 so I would expect it to cost a little more.

I personally resent getting someone else to do work on the car unless it's something like a clutch or timing belt - that way, if it goes wrong, it's down to them to put it right.

Spoke to a mate that has some spring compressors so just need to order the parts and find a weekend to do it.

My garage also doesn't charge £75 a hour but thanks for the heads up.

I've deleted the duplicate post now. Bloody ipad! I know what you mean about working on it yourself or paying for someone else t do it but I don't have a garage big enough for the car to go in so it would have involved me working in the road with the car on axle stands. Not too bad in the summer but decidedly unpleasant in winter. smile

That is a bummer.

I have a local garage we use a lot not a specialist but the family have used for years so can be trusted.

He'd probably charge me 20quid to change it.

But sometimes it nice to do things yourself.

Just depends if i cant be bothered or not

Just don't let the driveshaft drift out of the inner CV - big problems will ensue.

Why what have I done?

Is that a brand or supplier?

The ones I bought are made by KYB and are supplied by APD car parts.

Scantech - suppliers of total pap from what I've seen.

I've not seen that kit before, I'll be interested to see how you get on with it. Normally, just the bearing plate is about 80 quid, the rubber spring seat is about 20 and I've no idea how much the top thingy costs but I doubt it's cheap.

Volvo in Leicester wanted £37.68 for the same from the parts department but it would mean me having to go pick it up so thought I'd go with this.

Will see what turns up Wednesday.

Just popped in to see the lads in the garage doing the MOT.

Turns out the ball joint on the anit-rollbar has completely sheered off.

It didn't fail on the strut seat! Hopefully that will stop the knocking.

I'll still do the strut seat at some point as I bought one anyway.

Will see later when I pick it up.

So turns out the strut seat was proper borked!!!!!!

Strangely it didn't fail on it at the MOT but the garage replaced it anyway as I already had the seat, they also had to replace the snail shell bit too.

Made a massive difference to the weight of the steering wheel and feels much more planted on the road now.

I'll get the off side done too at some point.

Well the bearing plate doesn't look any worse than the ones I have in mine at the moment tbh but the rubber seat is fubar!

Have both sides been done?

Yes pete (mechanic) said that the bearing plate wasn't but as I had a new one put it on anyway.

No only had the nearside done yesterday.

You can hear the off side now so will get the part and do it myself this time.

nicesmile

Must get round to doing some work on mine. There's nothing wrong as such, I prefer to do the work before it's needed and I fancy some polyurethane bushes for the back end wink
