I'm looking for a Volvo V70 D5, 2004 onwards in decent nick with a full service history. Nothing with moon miles (something around 80-110k is fine). Anyone got one they're offloading??

Looks like we V70 owners like to keep hold of our vehicles.

Just bought my 06 plate D5 SE with 195,000 and feels as solid as a rock. Beautifully engineered and so wafty on the commute to and from work everyday. Currently getting an average of 43 mpg over the 1500 miles I've put on it since June. Reckon I'll run it for another 3 years or so and upgrade to either a phase 3 or an XC60.

My 2008 D5 has 233,000 on the clock and feels like new.

My 2006 D5 cracked its cylinder head at 230,000. Yours for £1000 if you can fix it...smile

Well I guess it's a good sign when people hang on to cars up to high mileage. Same issue with my other target, the B6 A4 TDI 130, all of them have done mega miles....

Maybe some will appear with the September plate change as a few owners part ex. idea

Tim - any luck yet? I'm searching for much the same right now. Hoping to see a 2004 2.5 D manual (108k, full history) one this weekend, has the (seemingly) rare 7 seats too. Dealer is asking £3895 which seems reasonable so far. I think it's the 185 model.

There is no such thing as a 2004 2.4D. Prior to August 2005ish it will be a 163ps D5 Euro 3. From mid-2005 on (2006 model year) it will be a 2.4D 163ps or D5 185ps Euro 4.

Ah, OK, thanks. Probably autotrader tech details wrong then (never!). I understand from various forums the 163 is slightly favoured (less complex, slightly more economical) over the 185 and later 205. This is the one in question - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...

Yep - I bought a facelift 55 plate V70 2.4D SE (163hp) from an auction in October. Nice condition with a full history and cambelt recently done. So far it's been good and I've done 4.5k miles in it, averaging about 44mpg according to the computer. Only fly in the ointment is the fact it's telling me it needs a service despite the book saying it had one in August 2014 5k miles ago. Either the service stamp is squiffy or the computer wasn't reset. Also it has rather odd steering feel - like it's trying to self-centre when you wind a bit of lock on - slightly disconcerting but I'm hoping it's a characteristic of the breed rather than an inherent problem...

You can make an offer for my B6 A4 tdi sport (Quattro) saloon, I fancy a V70 smile due to an increase in my commute, and a new dog.

Both cracking cars, our A4 has been in the family since it was 6 months old, I'd only ever swap it for a V70 D5 SE.

Looks OK to me. It is not a facelift but that doesn't matter much. It is a 2004 model year which has all the relevant electrical and chassis upgrades.

Price looks pretty much spot on. Doubt you'll get much off if it is a nice one.

It's the steering rack. The valves go and the pressure build unevenly creating "pulses". You need a new rack I'm afraid.

Well that takes the shine off things. Steering rack? Sounds expensive.

Common fault - buy a salvage rack for it - no biggie, expensive new but the right garage will fit a secondhand rack for a couple hundred plus the cost of the rack.

Although check the condition of the fluid and resevoir first
