2007 V70 D5, 185bhp engine. Current mileage 67,000. Last Service 56,000 miles, ( which was the 108,000 6 years service, receipts show brake fluid and diesel filter changed )

Received error :

" Engine system service required "on LCD Readout during trip away. However this message self cleared after a long motorway journey back home. ( present for all of journey, however after being parked then restarted, no longer present )

I did the "read" and then press rear fog twice trick, no message.

Engine oil level seems to be at the high point. The only variable I could think of was that my drive slopes backwards, maybe this message is being triggered by high oil level ?

I was thinking of self servicing it this week anyway, ( from reading up I need to change only oil filer, pollen filter, and I was going to change the Aux belt tensioner and rear handbrakes shoes which look like easy jobs ) however this message has me a little spooked so was considering Volvo specialist.

Any opinions ?

Had an oil level problem myself. It should be 3/4 of the way on the dipstick and not at full. Your probably borderline or something so it's setting it off but then clearing.

Thanks guys ! I have let it settle on a flat surface overnight and its just over the high point of the dipstick, so I am pretty convinced by this diagnosis.

You need to take 300ml of oil out. It should be 3/4 on the dipstick. You should have a sticker on the engine or surrounding frame somewhere which was put on in a recall.
