Recently acquired a 2002 S60 D5 Manual snotter with 99k on the clock for the princely sum of £300. Drove it home Tuesday, 40 miles or so and no issues. Left it overnight and all of Wednesday. Went out to it Thursday morning and wouldn't start, wouldn't even turn over. Turned the key and just one click. Hooked some jump leads up (thought this would be feasible as the temperature has dropped the last couple of nights and nothing. Thought maybe a 2.0T Leon Cupra might not have the guts so thought nothing of it and just counted on borrowing the jump pack from work. Fast forward to this morning, hooked jump lead up and still nothing. Went to the battery in the boot and hooked it up to that. Still nothing. Hooked jump leads up as well as the jump leads and still nothing! Not even turning over. Car has half tank of fuel and full service history. Does this possible just sound like a knackered starter motor? Any help greatly appreciated! Either that or there is a non running S60 D5 for sale!

Besides the obvious lack of effort to start, do all the electrics power up correctly? Headlights bright, warning lights coming on initially then going out okay? If that's the case, have you the ability to (attempt) a bump start?

All electrics seem to work ok, no warning messages. Havent attempted a bump start yet so I suppose that's the next port of call! Doesn't seem like it can be anything other than the starter?

Did it start eventually? £300 is criminally cheap, you got a deal there!

Does it need clutch pressing down to start?

If the battery is low, but not dead, you should get a message in the dash warning you

Sounds more to me like the battery is OK but the connection from battery to starter isn't

What exactly happens when you turn the key? Any noises, clicks, movement, smells even?
