I am interested too in hearing about the driving experience though not looking like I will be getting one this year (whether or not any are available). I think I would have to be convinced that the new XC90 is much better than a LR D4, as the latter is now becoming available with discounted prices (down to lack of sales to Russia, perhaps?) and is looking to cost a lot less (though who knows what residuals will be like in 3-4 years time). Certainly, there is no way I will be ordering one without having had a good drive myself

Apologies for the lack of scope or depth of the pictures. No driving and I had to leave on account of being absolutely shattered from only 4 hours sleep since 3.00am on Tuesday morning. The colour doesn't do it for me however, having spent nearly 17 years combined, with BMW/Audi, i can tell you this is a superb product. delivery is june/july now, for us.
One thing i can definately say is the the 'Thors' Hammer' headlights look unbelievably good in real life.
Supposedly Volvo have 16,000 pre orders for the vehicle worldwide (not sure if that includes the 1927 edition or not but probably) not a bad start considering really no one has seen a proper production model let alone driven one.
Those seeking huge discounts I think will be rather let down for some time. If Volvo do it properly they will hardly pay the dealers any margin for selling the cars and providing they sell enough give them a bonus on the cars already sold and registered to keep the residuals strong.

Volvo margins on XC90 are as normal but the car doesn't qualify for any targets so absolutely no need to discount.

Depends if it's your company. You will be able to write off 100% of the Cost against tax, however, if there is any private use, you will be liable for BIK as it will be a company car. Having said that, the BIK is so low that it may very well be an advantage to put it through the company. Don't forget that it's still an all wheel drive. The electric motor is on the rear but the AWD systems still works when running on just the petrol engine. Imagine the electric motor as a slave motor. What is more worrying, though, is the thought of 320bhp through the front wheels with only 80 through the rears - is it just going to understeer horribly in the wet? (ie, all the time here in Lancashire!)

and it is my company. I reckon putting a T8 through the company would cost less than a D5 privately (though residuals of either difficult to know), but will need to drive 'em both. The xc90 is on the list but feeling even less decisive now than before yesterday when I did a Land Rover off road experience - the rr sport was luuurrrrvely, sadly put me off the Discovery 4 a bit, tho I can get one of them (disco) probably quote a bit cheaper than an xc90 will be whereas rrsport would be more expensive still

Curiously Volvo have not really touched on what off road capability the XC90 will have, im sure it will be decent enough off road as the rest of the range is, but they will not match LR products in any area in the off road arena!Yes, I know all about bik, thanks

I have been irritated by the Volvo rugged "offroad" pack that is available on the XC90 (not sure if that is the correct description) - someone at Volvo in an interview with What Car? said that they were aiming to be understated and not bling-y (which I found very attractive), and thenI discovered they offer 22 inch wheels as part of the rugged / offroad pack.

The benefit of low emmissions cars on BIK is quickly fading away. The Gov are rapidly increasing the BIK rate on such cars, so I reckon it'd probably not be worth a company purchase, unless you do so in the next tax year. and it is my company.
