Good morning all,

I am considering selling my D5 to a T6 due to a massive reduction in the miles I must do, the car will be used for shorter in town journeys to work when the weather is bad and longer journeys on weekends and Holidays.

My questions are

Will the short journeys be bad for the T6 as it is for the D5? I have had the Soot Filter Full warning already on the D5.
Is the fuel economy that bad? I hope to get 30MPG on a run.
Would an ex police car be a good choice?
Is the 3.2 a good alternative?
Any other Estate cars to recommend?
Any other advice?

The car will be mainly used in Germany so I need a good autobahn cruiser.

Thanks in advance.

Don't know enough about the T6 but in regards to ex police go for it. I've had an ex police T5 for almost four years now and its barely cost me anything in repairs and has never let me down.

Didn't think the cops used t6s? All the ones I've seen are d5s - as for short journeys - no car should do really short journeys but a t6 should fair better than a diesel in all but fuel economy - 30mpg is very optimistic as an average - knock about 8mpg off that figure - 30mpg in a long run? Yes. Average in all types of driving? No way, you're looking at low twenties

Yep - plod used T6 V70s for a few years although most forces have gone over to the BMW oil burners now.

30mpg seems optimistic, and if town driving id suggest 15-20mpg will be closer to reality.

This one appears to be NON police, so rare indeed!

A facelift 2.4L T5 can make the same 320+ bhp from a half-decent remap.

What puts people off the new T6 is the tax - 515 quid for the first year!

I've been looking at these on and off for a while. When they aren't ex-plod they always seem to be totally specified up to the eyeballs, so they were probably dealer demonstrators!

I'd love to get impressions from someone who has owned/driven one as well as a P2 V70 T5, but I do recall reading that it was much more refined. We're looking at a brand new D5 V70 now so it's an interesting option to have.

I have a modified P2 ex-plod V70...

It's quick smile

Wouldn't mind a blast in a T6 but they weigh near enough 2 tons and have less power than my plodder so I think I'll be disappointed.

I've got a '04MY 2.3 T5, unmodified, but it's getting on a bit now so it might be time for a change. That said it's worth so little I'm inclined to keep it until it dies, which knowing this car could be a very long time. It's only done 128k or so. I don't think I've ever spoken to anyone who's driven a P3 V70 T6 for comparison though!

I imagine with 4WD and more weight the actual performance of the T6 will be no better, but the general refinement and NVH of the P2 really are from another decade and I'm starting to find that a bit wearing.

Thanks for the reply guys,

The main thing is reliability, and service costs. How does it faire on these?
Also how does it drive? I am coming from a 185 D5 which is not really that fast to compared to my Mazda 3 MPS.

What is you general opinion of the car? Happy?

reliability, not better or worse than any other model(but only drove as said the "sport"versions. As for the drive(for me ,comming out of the R,it's a whole other "beasty"this one is more for a comfy(yet very fast, when you want to)drive,as for the "R" it was a more unrefined drive(but no less fun, expension much firmer, engine note to and acceleration seemed much more brutal(let there be no mistake this one is fast(T6)but smoother.)

My general experience with this one is i'm a happy camper(like the comfier drive and the auto, being that it is my first auto)

So when you're in the poss to buy one, don't hessitate)running cost more ofcourse than a let's say 2.0,but that's normal.

Mileage you'll have to convert(since i'm in Belgium)but an average of about 11-12 ltrs per 100kms,mine,and that's driving city and motorways combined)
As for what are they good foor can't say yet, mine's at 110 k kms now(but when i can compare, with the old R,when i sold it it had 330K kms and still driving strong, that was 3 years ago)so let's say an easy 300k kms and much more must be possible, since it's not a petite engine with everything(powerwise)put out of it ,like the modern engines.Have to see, plan to drive mine for a few more years.(haven't had any major things with it so far.

As said not very common to find even here(bought mine in germany, very young 2nd hand)

Have to say I've always fancied one of these - whats the road tax like? I can't imagine fuel consupmtion would be much different to my current T5

Well i think fuel cosumption would be a bit like a T5,but there's the auto box and awd to consider,so more i think.

Roadtax here(Belgium)is about 750 euro's.
