Hi,

Decided I want to make use of the camping equipment that been sat mainly unused in the garage.

I figure Golf would be too small hence the need to buy a Volvo.
I fancy a V70 estate under £800.

Plan to keep on private land, tax for a few months over summer and dayinsure when I need it.

Not bothered about spec/mileage, will run on a shoestring. Any advice on what would be best and best to avoid?

Thinking something like this - http://tinyurl.com/lucxpn7

Thanks

Unless the policy has changed since I last used dayinsure, the vehicle needs to be on another policy for you to use the service. The idea being that you could borrow someone else's car, which they have insured, but not with you as a driver. As I say, it might have changed, but something to consider.

Get a boggo 2.5 10valve or 2.0 20v - to be honest though all are reliable in the classic shape. Avoid the 2.0 10v engine - too gutless - best all rounder is the 2.5t Trouble you'll most likely have with infrequent use is seized rear brake calipers. Check the engine breather system if you go look at it - pop the bonnet, start it up and pull the dipstick out - if you get smoke from the dipstick tube you've got a blocked breather - that means its been run on crap oil, the breather will need changing or you'll end up blowing the rear main oil seal. cambelts intervals are rated at 60k but i'd recommend changing every 40k (very easy to do on these) Great cars and largely viceless - any major issues on them have long since been identified and are easy to diagnose and rectify
