XC60, opinions?

Looks like I'll be getting a XC60 D4 auto R-design as my next company car. I've had a brief drive but I'm getting one for 5 days at the beginning of April so will have a better idea then.
I've spec'ed met paint, tinted glass, and winter pack. Has anybody got a similar car? Just interested in people's opinions. I do approximately 25k moles a year so choosing the right car is quite important!

We have an XC60 D5 SE Lux, and I have to say, my partner adores it. We bought it to replace her Audi TT Roadster about 18 months ago, and I can honestly say she wouldn't have anything other than her XC60 now. Its taken us from London to Scotland twice and the south of France and back, as well as the day-to-day grind. Fuel economy isn't great, but the comfort & practicality factor outweigh that. I have to say, the other big selling point to us was the safety aspect. We look after our two nieces quite a lot, and having them cocooned in a Volvo is a comforting factor. I have to say, I wanted her to get the D5, so we didn't bother with any of the other engine options, so can't comment on your choice with any authority. The D5 is reasonably quick (we have the auto) and quiet. Ours is a pre-facelift car, but spec-wise the only thing I'd have changed (we didn't buy new) if I could was o have a panoramic roof and the family pack. Otherwise, its a perfect car.
On the basis that we bought the XC60, my sister-in-law then bought an XC70, and I replaced my SAAB with a C30 T5, so it did the job on us! I'm sure you'll love it.

I have an XC60 D4 AWD R Design Nav manual (2103) and can't fault it. We've done just under 30,000 miles over the two years of ownership including two ski trips to France. It's very comfortable, audio system is very good - we opted for the rear screen set-up and auto tailgate. In hindsight I probably wouldn't bother with the auto tailgate next time as you can't really jam stuff in the boot so easily - it would be perfect if it had opening rear glass. We get around 40mpg average which for AWD isn't bad in my book. I do like the torque of the five cylinder engine. I would definitely replace with another (unless I can stretch to a new XC90....)

I had a new SE Lux D5 auto on a '60' as company car for 22 months. Racked up 94k with no faults at all. Appeared to be made of kryptonite, fabulous place to spend your working life.
Auto box rather slushy, but she lived on the motorway so didn't irritate too often. Averaged 33mpg, which hurt a little.
Best dealers ever. D4 engine seems to be perfect compromise for all aspects - enjoy.

Thanks guys, I've pretty much 100% positive things from owners so will have to see how the extended test drive goes. I will report back.
The only thing I'm concerned about is the ride on the r-design I had a V60 r-design for 5 days and rejected that due to the very hard ride, so we shall see.

We have an XC60 D5 AWD R Design Auto and is a really nice place to be. Mines a 2010 pre facelift version with premium leather/ sound. I borrowed a V60 R design from work and was great, but I can honestly say is leagues below in comfort than the XC. Bigger wheels and although has stiffer suspension to the standard xc car, we much prefer it. We have the 18 inch wheels on it. I have just taken the 17 inch winters off and refitted the 18's last night and did 100 miles today and didn't notice the harsher ride, but the roll was a little less. I set the fuel mpg reset on a motorway run today and managed 38 mpg, which is about right. Wife trundles to work and we get about 26 mpg stop start. From my experience, if you buy from a dealer, is not to trust them. We bought a Selekt car and they covered up lots of issues, which also involved Volvo UK to have to resolve. Our previous V50 from another dealer had issues as well and a non covering ' full warranty' was worth pish.
Overall we are happy with the car. Its a comfy, capable car, with room for the dog cage and a hidden towbar for my pedal bike rack too. Not sure currently where we go from here, other than buy another one when the time comes, which is a long way off at the moment.

I had a 2010 xc60 with most of the options boxes ticked including the 20" crater alloys which didn't make the ride too hard-it was an R-design. The xc60 was practical and the electric tailgate was a great option to have and I would recommend the option to others. I had the D5 and found it thirsty, getting 37mpg even on a longer run without a heavy right foot. The car is good for motorways and if you do that sort if driving spec the adaptive cruise as mine had it and I found it a great option to have.
Other than straight line driving the car showed it's weight in corners and never felt like anything other than a heavy front wheel drive car. The 4 wheel drive system isn't up there with the best of the current systems and the interior is showing its age in terms of infotainment, satnav etc. For hauling the family round cocooned in safety it does the job but in all other areas there are others that are better, and often for less money.
Finally I found the dealerships, technically and from customer service to be terrible and Volvo UK customer service are an absolute disgrace.

I took a delivery of a new XC60 D4 SE Nav (2WD) this week. bog standard but with Winter pack.
Infotainment is much updated, and the on-line options interesting.
Car's quiet, comfortable, reasonably quick. Wish i'd gone Lux for leather, but also happy to avoid the extra cost.....
Quirks that are taking a bit of adopting.....
Electronic brake - does not come on automatically when switched off like most cars. Fine as I leave it in gear - not so fine when I put the clutch down to start.
Auto locking - most cars that do this auto unlock when you turn engine off or open door etc. Vovlo does not. Had to turn it off as sick as having to go back to unlocking it.....
Even my entry level has electric tailgate.

It does sound like something has not been set correctly as all the Volvos I've owned automatically unlock all the doors as soon as the drivers door is opened. Might be worth getting the dealer who supplied your car to have a look? There are so many settings in the "My Car" menu that it does get a bit confusing!Thought id better update this thread now I've finally placed an order.

read this as I have just ordered the R-Design Lux...
...one question though, when you go for Lux you get leather, but you have to separately spec heated seats!! crazy...plus even lux spec does not get Sat Nav as standard so had to order that separately as well...Volvo marketing have got that wrong!

I have to admit that I had never even considered a Volvo, and had been in very few as a passenger. Car history to date was audi, and thought that when it came to changing it would be a bmw or audi, or even a merc.
However, my wife for some reason has been keen on the thought of Volvo's for a while. I managed to dismiss this in the past, and picked both our previous cars - even though we share equally as a one car household (for now).
Basically, following a drive from hell from Aberdeen to south England when we relocated in January in a cramped TT we popped into local dealer next day on spur of the moment. Test drove a 1 year old XC60 D5 R line lux (sat nave, heated seats etc)in auto and after a quick chat over trade ins value we left a deposit and returned 5 days later to collect.
Wife loves it (which makes my life easier!) and I have to say, I love it. Never thought I would like it but it is practical, has plenty of power and is so easy to drive. I drove from London to Manchester non stop in awful traffic not long ago and although it took 5 hours, I walked out at the other end feeling as fresh as when I started. Always power there and for a 2.4D never find it lacking for speed or acceleration.
Fuel is fine, actually impressive on longer journeys. The design of the car continues to impress - tail lift is great, the shopping rack in the boot is clever as are the in built booster seats (not required for now!). Cabin is such a nice to be, we absolutely love going on long trips just like other PHs already mentioned.
On plus side, wife loves it and we won't be changing it for ages. Which means I can keep saving for something for me only...to use at weekends!
