Hi,

Yesterday I ordered a XC60, D4 AWD Auto R-design, I'm very excited about getting this car but have just read this on the telegraph website:

"XC60s with standard suspension are good at soaking up bumps, too, yet they’re not so soft that they lurch around and makes the kids feel sick over undulating roads.

Just make sure you avoid R-Design versions of the XC60 because these have a stiffer suspension setup that reduces comfort without significantly improving driving fun."

I'm not too worried about the handling of the car, comfort is more important, I ordered the r design for the styling, comfy seats and the deal on it. Have I made a mistake? Should I if chosen the SE?

Thanks

I have the se and find it a little harsh. But I don't like a firm ride.

R design can't be that bad as there are enough of them...

We have a D5 SE Lux and when my C30 went in for repair, my insurance company gave me a D4 R-Design as a courtesy car. My o/h (whose car is the XC60) commented on how much nicer her seats were as well as the general spec of hers. D4 engine was nicer as it was quieter and smoother with no difference in performance that we noticed, but I have to agree that I preferred the SE Lux spec.

It might be an age thing, but then again my C30 is a T5 R Design, so maybe not.......

I'd go and look at an SE if it's not too late.

I've had mine just over 6 months now. D4 r-design, the ride is quite hard, comparable to the Octavian vRS I had previously. The interior looks great but the quality just doesn't seem to be there, quite a few little squeaks and shudder through the body. The engine and 8 speed auto is a nice drive train but does sound quite coarse especially when cold. I'm getting bang on 40mpg driving it with no regard for fuel economy at all (fuel card) which I think is quite impressive. I like to keep my cars looking nice even though it's a company car and I know black is the worst colour but the paint is unbelievably soft, I am very careful when washing and it's almost impossible not to damage the paint when washing. God knows what it would look like if you let the hand car wash boys look after it.

Overall I just haven't clicked with it. It's probably just not my sort of car really but I'd go back to the skoda tomorrow.

Had mine similar time and is pretty much the same spec D4 R-Design Geartrinc Lux Nav ....negative is you have to pay extra for each of those names! Positive, I like it: is it is a great and relaxing car to drive. No problem with R-Design spec, it is much more comfortable than my 5 series M-sport beemer. Seats are the best in R-design (out of any other car). So easy and comfortable to drive on on long runs. Obviously as a soft roader with front wheel drive, it doesn't do corners as well as a BMW, but i guess that makes me drive in a more relaxed manner, which the family likes. Also, paid extra for the heated steering wheel...nice! Did also look initially at a Evoque before, but the seats...Arrrghh.

Can you get three child car seats across the back row in these? Would be two stage 2 boosters and one Stage 0 rear facing seat.
