Just put a deposit down on a V70 diseasel. I'm joining the comfy car club after a couple of years of stiff suspension and 9k revving Toyota motoring spin

The guy is getting it MOT'd for me tomorrow so it will come with 12 months ticket. I've not seen the car yet but have been assured it's spotless. He has owned it over 10 years and it's just had front wishbones and cambelt change. The car has only just done 100k so pretty low for a 52 plate. Decent spec with sat nav and all the other bells and whistles.

Anyhow my main worry is the gearbox. Bloke says it's spot on but I've read a few horror stories. I guess there are a st ton of V70 autos about and the amount of good reviews I have read far outweighs the bad. Bloke at work is on his second got rid of his D5 at 280k and now has a T5 on 150k with no gearbox issues both early models.

Is there something to look out for to spot gearbox problems early and I fancy getting it remapped is that a bad idea? Anything else to watch out for before I part with my hard earned?

You have not seen it but paid a deposit?
Do we await further threads of woe?

It's a private sale and the guy seems genuine enough has said I'm free to back out the deal if I'm not happy after viewing. The guy has owned it since nearly new and it has all the history. That being said the gearbox will probably explode after 100 miles in my hands whistle

Providing the car is as good as you hope, the first thing I'd do is get the gearbox flushed and filled with genuine Volvo ATF for peace of mind.

Also, look for any weirdness from the speedo cluster as the older ones are known to go nuts, costing a small fortune to put right.

Thanks. As the guy has owned it for so long I'll ask a bit more re the gearbox and if the cluster has ever been done.

Has anyone ever had any experience with these Aux units? Even if I ended up with a different Volvo it's something I'd still look at doing. I believe for cars with the RTI system you also need this adapter?
