I've been looking for a car that is super economical for long distances and a few town runs.

I'm definitely after zero tax and 500 miles to the tank. I tend to stick to German cars having owned a number of VWs, BMWs and an Audi. However, on running a zero road tax search on Autotrader, I was introduced to the Vovlo C30.

Drove a 2013 model today. £11995 from Volvo West London. Had a 4 pot 1.6 diesel engine which was a lot perkier than I thought it would be. Most of all, I was thoroughly impressed with the building quality. The interior was minimalist and solid - similar to my 1 series and just how I like it.

I'd like to stick to a £10k budgets so I may have to go for a 10/11 model.

Thoughts? Advice? I don't know a thing about Volvo other than they're Chinese owned!

Cheers

Nick

Chassis is based on a Focus, from the time when Volvo were Ford owned, no bad thing really,as the Focus was always a good steer. D2 engine is the PSA/Ford engine- many well documented issues with this, but Volvo don't seem to suffer with the turbo issues and carbon buildup as bad, Volvo do specify a different oil which may lessen the problem? They really don't like short journeys, but you need to be doing long gentle motorway runs to get anywhere near the official MPG figures. I do reckon the C30 is a stylish practical motor, and a good shout different to the usual German choice.
