I thinking of buying a 850 R Auto, what sort of fuel consumption should I expect? I realise its not going to be that good!

My driving is mainly a 20 mile run to work on D restricted open roads and the usual town and shopping trips.

Any advice much appreciated

average of around 25mpg in all conditions. on a run and a light foot 30-35mpg is possible. Give it some welly and it can drop into the teens.

I'd imagine if you are asking about fuel economy from an R then I'd reconsider what car you are buying.

On average around town we see 20mpg, that's with a MAP, on a run if careful can see 32mpg, driving like a fairy

I had several...

My current daily 98 V70 T5 Auto has just done Rome and back over the Alps and averaged 28mpg for the 4000 mile trip and it didn't exactly get an easy time. Round town it'll drop to low 20's.

My T5-R manual has done 32mpg down to Bristol and back but if it gets let off the lead... high teens is the norm.

To be fair, they aren't as bad as people say if you drive like Miss Daisy but if you push on, they're pretty dire... but sound terrific!

One thing, I always thought auto boxes destroyed the R models I had (S70R and an 850R) to the stage I vowed I'd never set foot in another auto as long as I lived... yet for some reason, I love the Auto in the T5.

I suspect it's because the T5 is standard and much softer and lazier than the R's I've had... thus a wafty box seems to suit it rather well.

Auto for getting places, manual for getting places with a smile and no front tyres left...

My S70 5t auto with a Rica 240 upgrade used to average 22 mpg running around locally to work and back , on a trip to Scotland it averaged 38mpg !
When pressing on /qualifying I have seen 9mpg average .
The right upgrade to the map/ecu does help with economy, like a twit I sold the car .
Now in a C70 T5 auto and will be looking to upgrade the ecu in the future as I miss the fabulous torque the S70 had .
