Dear Volvo Owners,

Does anyone have experience of the European spec 2010 onwards Volvo S60 T5's? Most reviews of the T5's cover the US-spec 5 cylinder motors.

Are they more fun with 4C chassis and/or R-design trim? (I'm not expecting 3-series like handling and I'm guessing that steering feel will still be poor, but something with a bit of fun on rare occasions would be nice.)

Any advice? Any spec I should seek out/try hard to avoid?
Has anyone got fed up of an S60 and bought something else?
Is there a cambelt to change or are they chain driven?

Thanks.

(Edited to avoid confusion)

I'm on about the later 2010 onwards cars. The US cars got 5 cylinders, the Europeans 4 cylinders.

Sorry, maybe I should be clearer! biggrin

I suppose I used to be familiar with Ovlovs up to and including the 850, but then I've kind of tuned out. Then I noticed a quite funky-looking R Design S60 in Red and it got me thinking... Could it be a daily driver that can be fun once in a while the right chassis/suspension options? Or am I barking up the wrong (Scandinavian pine) tree?

Thanks mods for changing the title! (the "or similar?" bit was supposed to be that you could change it to what you like, but I'm still very grateful!) biggrin

Volvo UK did offer a T5 version of the current S60 and V70 for a couple of years and they sold maybe only 40 or 50.

Unlike the US version which was available in some other countries too with the ultimate version of the 2.5litre T5 found in the now discontinue smaller T5s and the last Focus ST with the M66 gearbox, this 'UK' version had the 2.0l Ford Ecoboost engine as used in the earlier, pre facelifted versions of the current Focus ST, with either Ford's MMT6 manual gearbox or an auto.

There are two of these S60s and one wrecked V60 on ebay at present.

Two observations: Ford, uncharacteristically, had quite some problems with this 2.0l Ecoboost and quietly and extensively reworked it for the facelifted current Focus ST.

Plus, post their discontinued P2 cars Volvo have introduced a Pincode system that is designed not only to prevent the introduction of software to enhance engine outputs but to create an expensive hurdle to any owner wishing to carry out even the simplest electrical adjustments or repairs outside the dealer network.

This PINCODE BANDITRY, which is vehicle and function specific is a flagrant breach of EU regulations designed to stop the abuse of a dominant market position.

Don.

I take it you're not a fan then.

Have you owned/driven one? If so, what were your impressions of owning and driving one, servicing aside?
