We have an elderly XC90 (2004 54) 2.9 T6.
It has started spraying auto gearbox oil all over the nearside front brake and the side of the car, and we are reliably told that a metal seal/cap has failed at the gearbox end of the hollow driveshaft, and that the oil is coming down the driveshaft and making a bid for freedom.

I cannot afford Volvo main dealer parts prices, so was about to resort to Ebay, but all the Ebay driveshafts, unsurprisingly, are off D5 cars.

So my question is, does anyone know if the gearboxes are identical, and so do both models use the same drive shaft?

Thanks Captain Slow - then I need to keep looking for a T6 shaft.

For those who, like me, store things away in the back of the memory banks in case it should come in useful later.....

I eventually found the part I needed on Ebay for around £150 delivered and customs duty paid, from the USA.
Not a Volvo part, but my garage said it looked fine, it fitted fine and it drives fine.
It came from a major parts seller in New York State (120,000+ sales to date on Ebay).

Volvo wanted £460 exchange, and didn't have any in the country.

It does pay to shop overseas sometimes, I managed to get a new starter motor for our old VW LT horsebox £50 cheaper even including delivery by buying in Germany rather than anywhere in the UK and all UK sellers wanted me to send the old one which would have added a big postage bill.
