Finally after much faffing the family car stable will be a Leaf, a Mustang and a V70, we have the first, the second is due Jan and I'm looking at V70s now after dismissing XC70s as not needed.
Being me I would change every belt and the handbrake shoes on purchase regardless (way I am)
Can anyone advise what "every belt" is (diesel motor) and rough cost / hours.
Any other preventative maintenance ? I'm looking at 2005 to 2008 cars mostly.

Cheers

Cambelt and tensioner books at about 1.2 hours on a D5.

You also have the aux belt - that has to come off to do the cambelt and is pretty easy to change (it varies on model year - the later ones take a little bit longer and use different parts). You also have a tensioner on that which should probably be changed and it might be worth doing the alternator pulley as well. Allow an hour.

The 2007 on models use a (Ford I think) tensioner and there was a recall on these so it may have been changed already. If it is subject to the recall check it has been done and if not do it ASAP.

Stick a water pump and tensioners on it when you've got the belts off too - provided its a genuine pump and not a cheapo I'd doubt the car will ever need another one in it lifetime. Also - if you're buying the parts, check the prices of genuine volvo parts and haggle with the dealer. If it means getting the business they often will match motor factor prices
