anyone replaced the manual gearbox cables 6 speed s60?!

Hi all, as the title says, has anyone changed the gearbox cables on a 6 speed manual S60? mines a 2.4D 2007/8. The forward and back cable has broken on the plastic by the gearbox and the cable has now bent and frayed meaning I can select gears. How do I get the cables out, throught the bulkhead (area?) and connected up?
Worth a shot asking, but I fear I may be on my own to figure it out!

For future reference its a barsteward of a job manipulating the cables without taking the centre console out, but it can be done. Grommet is under the passenger side carpet and you will need to remove the housing for the gear selector ball so you can get to the cable attachments.
