I got one from Aldi a couple of years ago for about £13. Works well use it on my 911 all winter. A lot cheaper than other options and it came out with the same scores in somebodies test on them, Auto Express IIRC.

For more than a year I have successfully trickle charged the battery on my XC60 through the trailer socket using a CTEK unit. This eases connection issues, leaving the car secure.

I mainly use it on a Land Rover FL2.

When first used it connected via a lighter plug unit into the power socket in the boot. This was about as far from the battery as you can get. Whilst it worked OK, now after recommendations it's permanently connected across the battery using one of these which is included with the charger.

The end socket sits alongside the battery box, the lead from the charger plugs into that socket, via an extension lead like this if you need it, it runs out from under the bonnet when it's closed through passenger door into the footwear to the charger itself. Mains lead to the charger, lock everything up secure.

Not scientific evaluation, but the definite impression that it works better and charges more quickly over the direct connection compared to through the remote power point.

Yes, used a thirteen pin plug on an lead which i then fed into the garage where it was joined to a CTEK adapter. This meant I could run a 12v feed to the car rather than a mains lead.

Have had ones which cost £60+ and discovered that the ones on ebay for about six quid work just as well if you don't want wall holders and fancy cables etc.

I use three of the above and have done for about two years now.
