Found out how! Go into the main 12 inch screen. On the left hand upper corner there are two round icons of a compass and 2D/3D. If you press the compass it will change the direction of travel and the 2D/3D one changes from well 2D to 3D!
What stumped me at first is that those options don't appear unless you press the "enlarge" button (or some similar name) to expand the map to full screen.

Hello. I picked mine up on 1st, last week. Mostly pleased with it. I've done 555miles at an average of 24.8mpg. I do my 18 mile (each way) commute on electric and charge at home (PodPoint) and at work.

Long journeys kill the mpg and it will only do about 240miles on the tank. It is easy to keep it in pure during commute, but I have to admit the "full effect" in power mode can be somewhat addictive! She shifts, but don't like the torque steer through front wheels. A combination of power mode and PodPoint not working at home during first week have contributed to the low mpg average to date. During commute I'm getting 108-160mpg now.

Here's mine, surprised not to see any pics posted...

I suspect the MPG will improve as the engine loosens up in the first 10k or so

A quick Google search will give you some options, but unfortunately they won't be as good now that the £5K Government grant has gone completely!

How refined are these things? We have the older generation (2008) as our family hack and it's a brilliant thing. The new ones seem to be quite a step up in quality and refinement.

Its called Bursting Blue. Its only available on the R-Design.
I've got the same colour on mine, although I went for the T6 as didnt want electric power. Air Suspension is so much better than the springs.

The main thing I dislike immensely is the awful silver bits (mirrors, window surrounds, roof rails). I really need to get them blacked-up with a wrap i think. Shame that Volvo are pretty much the only manufacturer not to offer a 'Black Pack' of any sort. But I appreciate that its personal preference. At least its matt silver and not chrome!

Hopefully they will roll out the colour to other models eventually. Like you, I'm not keen on hybrid just yet... Something to ponder on the future if the technology proves itself.

The chrome does get greasy but thankfully I'm not too fussed with an immaculate exterior, as long as the interior is spanking clean.

I like my estate cars but if I were to consider a 4x4, the XC90 would be my first choice. Meanwhile, I'm waiting for the V90

Thanks. I was pleased I chose the bursting blue as it looked so much more vibrant against a plain black R Design one that was being collected the same day.

Air suspension is excellent and rides much better that the spring suspension we test drove so glad we chose it.

I love the grey wing mirrors but also understand those that would like a "black " pack.

You might want to get the 9th March issue of Autocar, the XC90 T8 AWD R-Design is up against the BMW X5 xDrive40e MSport and Volvo give a very definite bloody nose to BMW.

Amongst other things, the Volvo is faster than the BMW, handles better, has a better ride and is significantly more economical.

I find putting it into "pure" mode for short journeys and trying to keep the needle in the electric section quite difficult. Must have heavy right foot!

Can anyone help with the sat nav screen? The arrow points in direction of travel but the screen is always north to the top. I'd like it to be in direction of travel too. Tried sat nav settings but can't find this option.

Managed to get the Pod Point installed before deadline and I find it fully charges in around 3 hours.

Overall highly impressed with it. Very comfortable, quiet and good looking.
I've had mine since October and have tried to find out how to change the Sat Nav direction on the main 12" screen. But I've had no luck, not sure it can be done. Not a big deal as the Sat Nav also appears on the screen behind the steering wheel in the direction of travel so I always tend to look at that and have something else on the main screen.

Brilliant - thanks!

Greetings

Am currently in the market for a new 7 seater for the family. Am currently on our annual Scandi ski holiday and as it happens Hertz gave me the option to take their new XC90 T8. The car is literally brand new with 300km on the clock as I got it and is Silver/black/20in wheels and is an Inscription model with what seems like every single option box ticked.

Have now put a few hundred miles on the car over 4 days on boring motorways, in City driving and in snow around a ski resort so a whole mixture of driving. Car has typical winter studded tires as is the norm here but otherwise as you would get in the UK.

In summary I'm very impressed with the car.

From my personal perspective some comments:

Pros
- Very well built, definitely on par if not superior to anything from BMW/Merc/Audi
- Very practical - tons of room for 7 people yet doesn't feel like a tank to drive
- Absolutely love the interior - very stylish, minimal and not fussy like most cars
- The centre console screen is fantastic and should be how every car is made - pressing lots of buttons now seems stupid
- Ride quality is very comfortable (have the air suspension) - this is a family car so a nice blend of comfort/stability
- All controls are pretty perfectly weighted/located
- Full length sunroof is a nice touch
- Charging is a piece of cake
- Styling - I actually think the car looks great for a 2+ tonne SUV
- Very practical - with 5 seats there is a tonne of space and even with all 7 seats there is a surprising large boot
- I have 3 small kids and they haven't yet managed to break anything - despite trying hard!
- Clearly the safety features are great and the car does feel very safe/solid
- Have heard lots of complaints in the press about the 4cyl sounding rough under stress but I think its not that bad - with my family in the car I rarely rag it anyway and drive pretty smoothly

Cons
- I like the speed limiter function but I get three red lights shining on the windscreen when I speed to warn me - they look cheap and are annoying (not sure how to turn them off)
- The automatic parking is a nice gimmick and my kids think the car is haunted but I wouldn't pay any money for it - I know how to park
- The car is brand new and its very cold here but more electric range on a full charge would be nice - 50/60 miles would be great
- In Hybrid mode the throttle response for overtaking etc is too slow - the car sometimes seems to think too long beofre getting on with it - and the sports mode is just a gimmick for a car like this

I come from a Lexus RX Hybrid and my mother in law has a Prius which I drive a lot so am very familiar with Hybrid technology - compared to the Lexus the Volvo is a big step forward in terms of smoothness of transmission, etc - you literally struggle to tell its a Hybrid. My father can hardly believe the car is a hybrid when he has passengered.

I normally live in London and I would say 95% of our driving is less than 25miles per day so for us this car could be perfect as we could mostly run on Pure mode alone, not pay congestion, etc etc.

Have to say I am very very impressed and way more so than I thought I would be - Volvo really has created a superb product. Given competitive pricing against the Audi Q7 etc also helps.

When I'm back I think I will seriously start to look at one of these. Just need to really look at the comparison with a fully loaded Inscription D5 and see if the numbers make sense (lots of very attractive nearly new ones already available that pretty much negate any saving on running a Hybrid) and I do need to test drive the new Q7 just to make sure. D5s have depreciated a lot already so be interesting to see how T8s do in the nearly new market.

Very lucky people you guys owning these - have another 4 days with this car and intend to put some more serious miles on it.

The range will depend on the journey distances.

The T8 comes into its own as a company car purchase (due to very low P11D) or a personal purchase for short distance commuting. E.g. a 60 mile commute with the ability to recharge at work would make perfect sense as you would use very little fuel. No road tax and no congestion charge in London either.

If you are doing lots of long distance driving I'd question why you would look at a T8 as the additional purchase cost would outweigh the fuel efficiency/electric mode benefits.

The fuel economy of the 2L petrol engine is not very good at all. I have a T6, which is the same petrol engine as in the T8, and get about 20mpg.

20mpg is 4.4 miles per litre, so if you were to get that economy, then your 50L tank would in theory last 220miles. But I thought that the electric engine continues to regenerate and contribute to powering the car, rather than running out and having no further role to play?

20mpg. So we gave up the lovely 3.2 I6, 3.0 Turbo I6 and 4.4 V8 for absolutely nothing? This car with the turbocharged 3.0 SI6 with 320 - 330bhp would be much, much more appealing with zero drawbacks for the customer. This new 4 banger engine is designed entirely to do well on the test cycle with no regard for real world performance. It's almost like they want to make the petrol option so incredibly unattractive you just give up and buy the diesel.

I wonder how many sales they are losing due to the mundane engine configuration. Maybe not too many in Europe and even China but it must affect things in the US. I can see it being an even bigger problem in the S90.

It's a tank! Not a fan at all but I suppose if you need a 7 seats there isn't a much better choice. Mercedes GL maybe?
