Hoping someone can advise...
I'm seriously looking at a second hand v70, possibly a post 2008 auto.
Do these have the same issues as earlier autos? (the sealed for life nonsense meaning premature failure etc)
If they do have the same issue how high a mileage car is worth considering before the risks are just too high?
Cheers!

This might not help much but I bought a 2010 V70 auto with 72,000 miles. I've put another 10,000 on it over the past year and the box feels pretty good to me. I'll probably get the oil changed at some point but all seems well for now.

They are not as fragile as the earlier gearboxes, mine is on 156k and no issues. You hardly ever hear of them breaking in cars built since 2007/2008. I think the S80 from 2007 and the V70 from 2008 are probably the most reliable, durable cars I've ever seen.

The 2006-2008 model year autos do suffer with faulty valve bodies. There is a Volvo TSB knocking around for it somewhere.

After mid-2008 there were some revisions and they seem better.
