52 V70 Auto....A/C problem got me puzzled

When i start up the A/C gives out a good 8 degree C, blast. Then at variable times, ranging from 15mins to over n hour running, it blows warm air. Then just as suddenly goes back to cold. If i stop when it is blowing arm and wait 10 mins it usually, but not always, reverts back to cold on starting.
Now it cant be a lossof gas ,as thishas been going on for a few weeks, so what can i narrow it down to? component beginning to fail, or something thatjust needs tightening somewhere?

You could do with seeing if any codes are stored and record a few sensors outputs while driving. eg if the interior temp sensor is reading correctly or goes wonkey when the problems start.

Sounds like the electric clutch on the compressor is getting slightly worn. I ghetto fixed mine with cable ties to move the plates closer together. Been fine for two years now.

I Agree with this diagnosis. The same happened to mine although the fix you describe didn't work as the plates were a bit warped on mine. Got a recon unit fitted by my indie for about 350 fitted.
