The rear wiper on my 55 reg xc70 has been getting progressively slower until it has now stopped mid-wipe.
Any advice on
which fuse to check, where any thermal cut-out might be and how to non-destructively remove the trim to get at the motor would be much appreciated

The shaft will have seized.

Remove the wiper arm itself and the retaining trim, then remove the boot lid interior trim and it's pretty well "follow your nose" (disconnect wiring, unplug water hose (it's squirted up the middle of the shaft).

It's all straightforward to dismantle and pull the arm shaft out and clean and regrease etc. You'll need torx bits.

Thanks, it was a minor seize, as I discovered when at the arm removal stage. For now wd40 is keeping it going, but your shaft removal/service recommendation is noted for when it happens again (another 150k miles hopefully).
