What sorts of parts are you after and what are you aiming for with your car? There's lots of performance parts available at reasonable prices, you just need to know whom to ask to get them from. I've managed to get an output of approximately 104bhp / 125Nm per cylinder from my car, with relatively "off the shelf" parts and a remap using the standard Volvo engine management system the car came with. I'd recommend having a look on www.t5d5.org, a forum where performance minded Volvo folk are actively exchanging information.

I'm certainly after a carbon spark plug cover and maybe a few other bits . I've just re-mapped mine - using a T5 auto ECU and replacing the chip in it putting the t5-R map on the new one - The torque characteristics are way better on the R map!

Volvo have produced a carbon fibre spark plug cover for the 850/70 Classic series. The part number is 9166 807 (I don't know whether it's still currently available). There are many helpful performance enthusiasts on the T5D5 forum who will I'm sure give you advice on performance parts and tuning!

i brought it already done from a friend, from memory it had a Garret T25 turbo, big bore stainless decat exhaust, apexi fuel injection, racelogic traction controll, big injectors, 50 bhp progressive nitrous as anti-lag, the guy was a complete volvo anorak, Im into Big V8's and Hybrid rocketcars so didnt take much notice of the spec (im more holley 4BBL than fuel injection)- to say it went like a bat out of hell is an understatement

absolutely awesome, i saw the 850 on youtube that was black and just seemed to destroy tyres wherever it went biggrin

Definitely will pick one up now after seeing yours, were the costs to get it there prohibitive or in the reach of the common man if you dont mind me asking?

Besides, awesome car mate!

Hi Chris

The black saloon on youtube is a very well known one it had i think around 500hpsmile As for the costs i would say to do it properly it is an expensive thing to do, the trouble i have had is where do you end smile

Time for a few updates :

The roll cage is finished and i am happy with the results its been made so i can fit inside without hitting my head on the roof bars or my long monkey arms on the side bars,i had windscreen pillar plates also made for the front section as i like the look and hope they will help with the strength

I also had a few bars put in the drivers floor to raise the floor height an inch to make the angle of the clutch pedal better on my ankle and so that the Peril can be driven by a couple of different drivers

I wandered what to do about my sunroof and finally decided to remove the whole unit and had to decide which way to go with the roof :

I had decided to buy another roof from a kind black 850 saloon that gave its life for the project

I also brought another dash at the time as i needed to cut one as a template to fit around the roll cage now it came down the A pillar

After a lot of this :

We ended up with this after ten hours cutting :

We decided to go this route rather than cut the original roof off the Peril as volvo make such a good job of building the car the roof has about 5 seperate layers and is also seam welded too ,the risk of killing the car due to an incorrect cut was too great ,so we decided on using the new roof as just a thin skin and weld/bond it over the top of the standard roof.

I also had been busy thinking of other ideas for the chassis to help put down the power and thought i would try all alloy subframe mounts to get rid of the twisting action the stress of the torque of my engine made before so our machine shop was given my subframe and the old bushes and came up with these

I also found when the dash was out that when you hold the steering wheel and apply force as if your cornering the amount of flex was shocking so decided to have strengthen bars made to help the steering feel it may work it may not but i wanted to try it ļ

More to come soon as there¡¦s lots to tell thanks for looking

Russ, you are mental cool

Having decided I don't want to spend all my cash at the moment, the XC90 is out and fast classic estates are IN!

I am never going to want/handle/afford 500bhp but logically what is the best base model for future tuning? I love the 850's but they are getting pretty old now and good ones very few and far between. Similarly the AWD V70's seem to be more potential trouble than they are worth over time.

Is a FWD V70R the best compromise? Where does the power to cost ratio become disproportionate in your experience (i.e drivetrain/gearbox/internals)? 400bhp? Less?
