no typo they have stopped making it and the cars are going to be badged t1-t11 for petrol and d1-d11 for derv depending on power output

I think it looks great!I really like the new Volvo look! The C30 and C70 look great and I really like my father in laws XC-60! Does the fact that the V60 is more sporty and less parctical than the old V70 mean that there will be a new V70 soon too?

Sat in the dealership yeaterday for the XC90's 3 month check and all the photos of the S60 had not prepared me for how small the car felt. Lovely looking but it felt dinky after my 5 series, whereas the S60 seemed a similar size inside. The estate seems not totally houndlike, but it looks more 3 series/Mondeo than exec sized ?

S40/V50 = Focus et al competitor
S60/V60 = Mondeo/A4/3 series competitor
V70/S80 = 5 series et al competitor.

Incidentally, since Ford sold Volvo and Jaguar Land Rover what do they have in this size range, apart from American rubbish? Assuming you don't want Galaxy / S-Max

Don't think so but tbh choice between a 5 cyl and a straight line 6 then the 6 cylinders have it.

Also don't forget the engine number doesn't relate to the number of cylinders these days Volvo are using it as an indicator of engine power.

For example the D3 is actually a five cylinder. It is the old 2.4D with a shorter stroke to make it 2.0 litres. In fact the 2.4D used to be known as the D5 before the higher powered version came in and that became the D5 and the old D5 was now called the 2.4D. Confused yet?

Have to say that looks very nice..... v50, as I have said before is too small for my current needs and current v70 (05my) beginning to cost to run so the v60 may be ideal. Is the interior same as s60, if so, I'll have a butchers next weekend....

ETA did I read Volvo website right, only one petrol engine (T6) in s60, will v60 be the same? Thats a shame as I doubt I could stretch to t6, nor like to run one, about 200bhp/35mpg would be ideal please please, pretty please Mr Volvo?

V60 is not out to look at yet in UK but interior is the same. I'd agree about the V50 being a bit small, mine is OK day to day, but it gets a stretch at holiday time, or maybe that is just because my lot like to take a lot of shoes and handbags.

Also I don't like the current V70, I have to drive those from the pool most weeks and just not keen.

The petrol 2.0T almost exactly meets your demand of 200bhp and ~35mpg on combined. Note that it says 98 RON recommended, 95 RON is OK day to day.

Funnily enough I've driven, not by choice I might add, a V70 with the 1.6DRIVe engine, expected it to give rise to comments about rice pudding and lack of skin removal. Was surprised tbh, OK it's quite leisurely 0-60in >12, and let's face it no diesel estate is quick in the overall scheme of things, even D5, but just dribbling around in normal driving it just didn't feel as sloooooooooow as expected. Strange.

Interesting, so v60 will have a 2.0t but s60 does not (yet) at least

What do you not like about v70 out of interest? Have driven d5 s80 and was disappointed with noise and economy, but that was all. From a driving experience, the only thing bad about my petrol v70 is the lock/turning circle which makes it a pita in busy, tight car parks

V70, it's a personal thing, difficult to put my finger on exactly tbh, it just feels a big lumbering bus that I don't need, and the current version just isn't as sharp as some incarnations only a few years back.

Also not helped that one doesn't fit in my allocated garage space without parking the o/s front wing within three nanometres of a big scratchy concrete column. Maybe that's more the fault of cars getting bigger and parking spaces not.

Having said that, comparing with other manufacturer's offerings it's not that bad at all and more comfortable than almost all perhaps even all of them. I had the misfortune to drive the latest Mondeo estate, now that is a big lumbering bus and no mistake so maybe I'm doing the V70 a disservice. Cue Mundano fanbois rushing to its defence.

I know what you mean. My last gen v70 is hard work parking, but out on open road, it is peerless in terms of long distance cruiser, well, peerless within my fiscal bounds anyway. Can easily do 350 mile round trip in a day with no ill effects. It is a very, very nice place to be and I particularly like the sand leather - I really don't like the ubiquitous blacks that 99% of german offerings seem to have, much prefer light colours + glass sunroof. The s80 I drove turned in very well I have to say, so would imagine v70 much the same.

I like the exterior of the Mondeo, but can't abide the interior. The general console looks tacky, the Sony stereo cheap and the instrument binnacle is just awful. I like functionality, but simplicity with it - I like the bmw idrive and audi MMI for that reason and same with Volvo interiors, simple, neat, tidy and functional. Do you know how the media interface screen on s60 works, is it touch screen as I couldn't see any jog dials in photos?

Am dealer trawling next weekend, ipod and cable and phone in hand to try all the various interfaces!

It's all on the steering wheel, depending on what kit you have I suspect there will be some additional buttons/joystick/roller on the reverse of the wheel as well as those on the face of the spokes.

Not sure of the exact combinations of what buttons work what yet. But I do find Volvo controls are fairly intuitive.

A lot of people, eg Clarkson, complain about the RTI satnav as one of the worst in the world, and yet I find the controls on the reverse of the wheel spokes brilliant, just two buttons and a joystick toggle doobry. (doobry being a technical term naturally)

Any news on when a new V70 (or equivelent) is due? It seams to be quite dated compared to the S/V60 and it will be interesting to see how it compares to these when it comes out!
