I'm going to be bowing out of V70 D5 ownership in the next week or two, due to an impending company car.

Any ideas roughly what it's worth? It'll have close to 188k on the clock, it's a 2002 163 S manual in blue (leather, winter pack, dog guard, removable towbar). It's somewhat scruffy around the edges (minor scratches on the panels, small dent in a door, bumper scuffs., but drives brilliantly. Cam belt is getting close for replacement (last done at 110k, so call it a 200k change).

I'm thinking £1,500 ish is probably reasonable, but have really no idea.

£1500...bloodyhell, bargain for someone! shame MissB isn't after a new workhorse just yet or I'd tear your arm off.

Might have to put the price up!

It has a bit of a gap in the service history, although the MOT's seem to verify the mileage. I've spent a fair bit on maintaining it, and it's been faultless since November of last year so I think I've ironed out the initial issues I had when I first got it.

I'll probably clean it over the weekend, photograph it and get it on the PH classifieds, assuming the rain doesn't stop play!

Have a look on Autotrader...I might be way off but to me that price would be ok for an S60 D5 in that condition, but the V70s ALWAYS fetch more due to the nature of them.

Volvo Estates have always fetched more than their Saloon variants (all things being equal)

btw the (old style) P1 V70 TDIs are currently fetching well over a grand, some are/were nearer £2k

Cheers for that. I was just thinking that it will require a cam belt in about 12k, although it's recently had a service and the tyres are all very good (rear pair are nearly new!).

It's a little more untidy than the one you posted appears to be, although I appreciate a photo can hide a lot of things. Maybe I'll stick it up at £1,800 for a quick sale, although if one of the regular chaps on this thread wants it for the first figure I mentioned, then PM me.

It was the first one with that sort of mileage.

Sounds like good value - I bought mine for £2600 two months back, V70 D5 with FVSH on 132k, tatty outside but good to drive. Also its an SE, plus 7 seats and booster cushions, leather, towbar, xenons, blah blah blah. I always assumed there were hundreds available, but they move quickly (at the right price) so you have to dive in at some point.

Snuggle up to £1995 and negotiate from there!

Cheers, I was thinking along those lines too.

I actually want to keep it just because I've some towing duties to carry out, but due to the new motor, it'll need to be SORNed if I don't shift it before the new car arrives.
It's a slightly complex situation in that the new car is a company car, but it's my company and my first fleet policy (3 cars), so I have to transfer my NCB before any fleet insurer will consider covering the cars.

Anyway, I digress, it's getting a wash and a quick polish in the morning. Might stick a little thread in Reader's Cars with a pic and costs breakdown over 22 months and 40k miles.

Oddly, the fuel light coming on in my S60 D5 means I have
around 1/2 a mile or so before it runs out!

Ok, slight exaggeration but it`s not far off that!
I regard 1/4 tank as "empty" so I would say I get around
650-700 miles but thats with quite a lot of town driving.

Confirmed by running out on the A1M showing 657 miles since last filled.

Mine's heavier on fuel than that. Best I've ever got, with the needle just above the red was about 650-660 miles to the tank. That worked out at a smidgen over 50 mpg.

Here's something i'm not used to.

Managed to get all 4 tyres replaced today for the same money it would have cost me to buy ONE tyre for my 5 series.

Reckon the clutch isn't long of this world though. Pedal is very high. Bog job on there cars?

I should think you could get an easy 100k out of it, more probably as long as you keep it maintained. You'll probably be bored and fancying a change long before it gives up the ghost.

Mine's just gone in the Classifieds on here. Don't really want to get rid, but keeping it isn't really viable.

Is it slipping or just high?
It is pretty uncommon for the clutch itself to wear out on these, but it is common for the concentric slave cylinder to pop, contaminating the clutch. (Although that won't cause a high pedal, just saying)
If it's not slipping at all i'd leave it.

Yes it is a big job.The parts are not expensive but it is not a quick job, Volvo quote 8or9 hours (of the top of my head)

Mine was done by my trusted independent using volvo parts, he quoted and charged for the time allowence even though it took him a bit longer.

For more info have a read on my S60 D5 thread in readers cars.

Just to give an alternative experience, my clutch began slipping at around 100k. I suspect it was partially attributed to the fact it used to drag a caravan around at some point in its life.

I had the slave cylinder changed as a matter of precaution even though it was fine and also there is a rubber bung that can let go and contaminate the clutch which was also replaced with what I believe is an updated part. It is also not unheard of for the DMF to also need replacing, however mine was thankfully ok.

Mine was done with LUK parts which was around £300 for the clutch plate alone, which in my book is expensive!

My indie managed to do it in 4 hours where most were quoting 6+ hours.

It has slipped but only once when i thought i'd be smart and see what happens if i turn the TC off and give it some. Didn't smell nice but no doubt has reduced it's life.

It hasn't slipped since though and i can live with a high pedal.

Hmm I've got a 52 plate s60 d5 and mines averaging 49.0mpg and about 600 to a tank driving economically and at 75-80ish, wonder what's causing the crap consumption?!

I wouldn't call that crap. Mine can't get near that. I think these cars can be quite variable. My overall average is 42, with the last few months being close to 45.

I'm not sure that can be right? Is that 49mpg obc or brim to brim? 75 litre tanks divide 4.5 = 16.6 gallons.

16.6 gallons x 49mpg = 813 miles. Not suggesting you run it to empty but definitely more than 600 miles to a tank.
