Minor Update on the S60:
MissB ran me up to Liverpool for the ferry to the Isle of Man TT, then ran up and bought me back again few days later..faultless.
Then had a call from her the other evening, she was stuck at the bottom of the hill unable to change gear...erm ok!!!!
Went down to assist/investigate, the car was stuck in 4th and the gear stick was flopping about (clutch was fine), I popped off the gear stick shroud to have a look and all was connected as it should be there!.
Under the bonnet and from what I could see (without removing airbox/airfeed pipework) all looked ok.
Managed to move the nearest of the two gear selectors by hand and got the car out of gear, towed it home with the XC90 (on 49k btw and running sweet).
Following Morning: pulled off the airfeed pipe and could see the problem straight away.
The cable had popped off the gear selector^^^
Popped it back on with a "click" and gave it a wiggle, it wasn't coming back off in a hurry.
Quick whizz around the block, good as new...very thankful it didn't happen on either of the runs to and from Liverpool though!

After bouncing all over owners forums looking at things ranging from Saabs to Jags, I think that next year's replacement car will actually be an S60 after all
So, never one to rush my research... I think I've figured out which D5 I would want (the forum fave, facelift, 164 Euro3), but what's the T5 like? Can they acheive 30mpg on a very long, 70mph motorway run? Much quicker, much smoother than the D5?
I've all but ruled out the 2.0T, but the T5 would be a much more fun proposition

If this didn't have a beige interior, it would probably be sat outside my house, especially as it is just around the corner from work.

Bit of a mix up of tyres, but didn't seem too bad after a quick look over.

I have that colour S60 with the same colour interior and I think it's actually nicer than the darker ones - it feels lighter and airier than the dark interior. The only slight problem is the top of the dashboard reflects in the windscreen sometimes...http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2013...

I would guess you could just about do 30mpg if you drive like Miss Daisy, but that's kind of missing the point with a T5...So, never one to rush my research... Probably, but it won't be doing 30mpg at the same time!
A well maintained T5 isn't that bad on fuel, I get 37+mpg on a run but if you give it a bootful, it does get a bit thirsty. They are quicker in a straight line than a 330/530 but you'll need to tinker with the suspension go be able to get close to the cornering abilities of the beemers. The power delivery is the best bit about the T5 tho, it's like a nuclear reactor under the bonnet, just pulls and pulls right up to 7k rpm (limit is 7300 or thereabouts).
Remapping the later 2005> 2.4 version will see a jump from 260 to 320+ bhp for the princely sum of 300 quid. Now, there's a sleeper

I agree.I`ve just gone from a dark interior to the light one and I much prefer it.
Jumped back into a black leather equipped one yesterday and it felt like I was down a coal mine :-))

You're making a good case for the T5... The power delivery is the best bit about the T5 tho, it's like a nuclear reactor under the bonnet, just pulls and pulls right up to 7k rpm (limit is 7300 or thereabouts).

What's ride quality like by the way? (Assuming standard SE suspension) I read a review today that said it wasn't very refined and was quite unsettled around town? Provided it's as good, or better than a MK3 Mondeo Zetec I'm happy, those seats could make up for a lot of sins!

Unsettled around town? Probably not the best description. It's not really a town car as you'll find with the 11+M turning circle, it only just gets up the spiral ramp at Ikea! What's ride quality like by the way? It's fine around town and copes with potholes and speedhumps very well. (mine is ex-plod and used to do speedhumps at 40 but I've lowered it since then lol)
The main thing to remember is that it's a motorway car so you'll find it thirsty and a bit cumbersome (the V70 is nearly 18 feet long)around town but you'll still have the luxury, comfort and don't forget, all that power under your foot.
If you were anywhere near Dorset I'd have offered a test drive but mine has had some substantial modifications to the suspension and brakes so wouldn't be a fair comparison to the standard model.
(goes like the clappers and corners like a housefly )

Stripped and cleaned the rear calipers on MissB's S60 last night.
Fitted new dust seals too, run it round the village after and the drop-links are knocking AGAIN......f***ing great!
I've never known a car like these for st suspension design, they wear like no tomorrow! as soon as you stop one knock it's something else knocking again, yes the alignment has been done (get's checked/adjusted every year while being MOT'd).

You been using pattern parts again lol
Meyle HD drop links seem to be a good upgrade at about 40 quid, very sturdy.
My rear brakes are due soon but I'll probably upgrade to XC90 disks and calipers to match the fronts.
If you're up my way any time, give me a shout, I'll give it a look over if you want.

Also Intercooler number two has started swelling already (but not leaking yet).
I'm not putting another one on it, I can see this being the last winter with it then strip and scrap and get MissB in something decent.

Traded my V70 in last week and have gone...jap! Finally got tired of endless maintenance issues, mostly resolved but some inexplicable (engine momentary cut-out getting less momentary - three weeks at an indie garage and they experienced it once, repeated VIDA consultations no joy, collected it and it did it on the way home!!).
Trade in was reasonable - £1500 - at 146k and tatty exterior, but full VSH etc etc.
Now I'm ready for winter with a CX7. Oh, and 22mpg...
