It should be higher. Mine was similar until I changed the MAF for a genuine Bosch part.

The problem is the MAF degrades over time but the engine is strong enough to hide it, and excessive fuel consumption is a symptom of this.
...and as it degrades, ultimately does it cause problematical high load running such that it doesn't pull cleanly, to the point it throws a red triangle and goes into limp?

Fuel filter changed, new intercooler fitted, problem is better, but still there.

ETA

Not MAF as swapped for a good 'un today and it made no difference, sadly frown

Died on M1 midweek - one new in tank fuel pump and the D5 is back in rude health.

Guys, any ideas what this is worth?

I've had my 2005 euro 3 D5 for 5 years now, taking it from 100,000 to 190,000 trouble free miles. It has been religiously serviced, including interim oil changes, recent discs and pads on the front, recent cam belt and water pump change. I have a fully stamped book and every service piece of paper apart from the very first one. I'm the third owner. I can honestly say it has never let me down, a brilliant car.

Unfortunately two (!!) people have recently taken too much of a liking to it, and driven into it, causing the damage you see below. It is uneconomical to repair, from an insurance point of view, and will be a cat C. I have decided to change the car but I really would rather the car go to a good home than be scrapped/stripped for parts, it's too good for that. I have no idea what it is worth in its current state. Any ideas?

Engine/gearbox/etc all run absolutely fine. The boot opens and shuts/locks fine. I would obviously VIC the car.

In happier times:

Near side rear door/quarter damage:

Rear damage:

£750 ish, at a guess.

No damage, but with the miles around £1400 is my feeling.
And mine too.

If you had the time/space it would break for a lot more than that. At £750 thats almost certainly what the buyer would be doing.
I know, that's what I fear.

When I pick up my new car it will be number 4 so I really don't have the space to store/break it. I also suspect the neighbours may not appreciate turning our parking area into a breakers yard!

Would much rather it goes to someone who will use it than break it.

I suspect the wheels and tyres will be worth a good portion of that on their own, the wheels have been refurbished and are unmarked and the tyres are matching Goodyear Eagle Asymetrics with plenty of tread on them. Such a pain in the backside!

Hi PH,

Does anyone know if the ODB socket on my S60 (D5 Euro3) stays live when the key is out of the ignition and the car is locked?

I'm debating what solar trickle charger to hook up to the car and would ideally like to plug it into the ODB socket - (the cigarette lighter socket powers down when the key is out of the ignition).

Failing that I could hook the charger up to the battery with crocodile clips but that involves a fair amount of hassle threading wires up through the boot floor and onto the rear parcel shelf.

Cheers!

I'm fairly sure it doesn't.

Isn't the battery in the boot anyway? I wouldn't use crocodile clips though, get some proper terminals that you can fasten to the bolts on the terminals that connect to the battery.

Hi,

I've got a Ctek hooked up to my Volvo.
Really simple to connect up to the battery.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to do this (mods please remove if not!), but if anyone is after a low mileage facelift euro III manual SE then mine is now for sale. It's in the PH ads and is red! pm for details

There are a few red Volvo's around, but obviously not as common as silver! As most in this thread will know, finding a good facelift Euro III is tricky because the newer engine took over pretty quickly; however the older is generally preferred as it gets much better mpg and doesn't have a DPF. If I didn't now have a dog and a baby there's no way I would be selling it!

If anyone fancies adding the link to the smoker barges thread then I wouldn't be offended wink

For the same sort of price (£2-3000), has anyone got a first-hand comparison of an S60 D5 (Euro 3 preferably) to a 120d (163ps) or 320d (150ps)?

Looking for a cheap motorway hack, in the 45mpg ballpark. Any thoughts appreciated.

You'll get a decent S60 at that price or an utter dog of a BMW.

I've owned a 2001 S60 for nearly 5 years and used it primarily as a motorway hack, racking up 90k (now on 182k, more details in my profile). My friend has just bought a 2004 120d.
The Volvo is comfier, has a nicer cabin and has the more characterful engine.
The BMW handles better and feels sportier, it's marginally more economical and marginally quicker.

I'm still happy with my S60 5 years down the line, it just does its job as a motorway muncher so darn well, I've moved significantly closer to work now so instead have a 20 mile round trip commute through town, its hard to beat the cosseting interior of a heated Volvo seat in winter.
