You forgot alarm sounder battery units at the 8-10 year mark smile
Yeah mine had that. I put a full new unit in 2 years ago and it's gone again. I'll just do a fuse pull this time.

It wasnt mean to be a 'be all end all' though, just a quick type out heads up.
I'm about to saw the XC70's sounder unit open and see if I can simply fit a new battery, assuming it hasn't leaked everywhere.

It was a good brain dump - enough to frighten the uncommitted!
No its easy enough. I did a frinds Xc90 the other month.

He paid 30 quid or the battery I think.

Can anyone tell me why some S60 manuals have the "space ship" style gearstick (Silver dome type arrangement) vs some cars have the standard looking one? Doesn't seem to be a pre/post facelift thing as i've seen two pre-facelift cars with this?

Thanks

Not a particularly coveted option either, AIUI.

I always thought the spaceball was for cars with automatic clutches, like a DSG type thing. Seemingly not, I don't thing such a thing even exists on the S60! laugh

Slight change of tack but now the proud owner of this luxobarge.

2003 S80 2.4 D5 SE 163 EU3 Manual with 120k on the clock.

FSH, Good tyres, Good clutch, Cam belt done.

Opera CD in the changer, old boy had it since 2005. Bloody hell that 9 Speaker Dolby system really is the tits isn't it?

Got a sunroof which is nice. It's got "Sports seats" which are half-leather half alcantara numbers which is a weird one considering it was a £510 option on the SE. Guess some people don't like leather!

Just totted it up with the options and it would have been £26,905 on the road in 2003. Mine for £999. Think I got a real steal.

On board computer cluster is bust (only thing I've found not working), but looks like it's quite a common thing to go on this era of volvos and should be a cheap fix!

Here's to happy motoring!

I like the S60s and they are more practical from a parking point of view (I'm 22 and have no kids or anything to cart around), but this was such a bargain price, and the S80s are generally cheaper to pick up and only 1-2mpg worse on the combined cycle, and after having missed out on a few I just snapped at this.

The cheap fix may not be the case.

Just picked up my S60 D5 yesterday for £995.

120K, had 2 cambelts, intercooler, set of bosch injectors, tonnes or services, always had new tyres, its had power steering rack work, DIM work, bushes, brake hoses, brake discs and pads etc.

Pretty happy with it especially for the price I paid.

The Spaceball is really nasty. As well as lubing the cables (not easy) I had to strip the silver plastic bits and lube them up as well. Give me a regular leather gaiter.

2007 57 2.4D, 163 bhp.

Hi all,

Been having a read of this thread as I've taken an interest in getting an S60 D5 euro 3. Before I do any specific research I was just wondering at which years I should be looking at. Were injector issues and the likes resolved in 2003 or 2004? I know the facelift was 05/55 which can be difficult to find so I was mainly looking at 03/04 cars. Is SE spec the one to go for, any particular options to have??

Sorry to bump this old thread, but its this thread that resulted in me flirting with the idea of an S60/S80/V70 a few times. Indeed I was very interested in Hainey's at one point (do you still have it fella?)

Well I finally gave in and bought a 2005 (54 plate) V70 D5 manual in ash gold. I have to say I was originally set on the facelift, but the pre-facelift does have a few advantages, such as glass headlights which don't go cloudy, the awesome HU-803 Dolby ProLogic sound system which is arguably superior to the HU-815 of the facelifts smile, oh and pre-facelifts seem to be quite a bit cheaper than facelifts too biggrin

113k, full Volvo history (serviced annually regardless of mileage with invoices to prove), major service, MOT, clutch, DMF, intercooler and ABS bits replaced at Volvo last month at £2700 eek , new Michellin Cross Climates in August etc.

I paid £2200 which on balance I'm delighted with.

Only a few hundred miles in, but the first fill up reckons 1050 miles range (I'm hoping for 650+).

I've been through Hainey's buyers guide (thanks mate), and got the vacuum tester out etc., and so far everything checks out great. I've found a few niggles though:

N/S headlight motor not working - replacement ordered
Centre console trim broken (clips snapped from pollen filter change I suspect) - replacement ordered
Dashboard rattle at idle - traced to the 3 pipes at the bulkhead in a clip - clip repositioned on the stud where it belongs, no longer hanging in free space smile

The colour - not my first choice, but it's growing on me, it does look lovely certain lights, and very beige in others rofl It does have an immacculate black leather interior though.

And thats it!

Got a GROM on order, and annoyingly I can't think of anything else to do to it for the time being.

Crappy sales pitch photo below, but I can upload more pics if anyone is interested?
